  • Anyone practice Wushu?

I've been interested in Wushu for a while, and yes, I'm a fan of Jet Li and Donnie Yen - more Donnie. Anyway, the style has had my attention. I'm interested in hearing from anyone that's studies/studied the style. How it's effectiveness for self defense and how good is the workout? Does it get your heart rate up much? Thanks in advance.

I used to do Wu Shu. It is very good exercise. It will definitely get your heart rate up. You have to have good flexability to do it. Wu Shu is good for basics such as stances and kicks but it isn't very good for self defense. Wu Shu is a performing art. It will however enhance your other martial art training if you are training in something else such as Shaolin or other Chinese martial art. Wu Shu forms have a lot of what we call "tricks" in them. A trick is something like an aerial, or a butterfly kick with a full twist, or a back tuck, etc....
    It's hard work.
