Originally posted by Nothingnessso you have 2 different forms for 5ft and 7ft? what about spear and guandao?
my teacher creates a weapon form that he says is the essence of what he has learned from the basic forms over years.
Just like me I trained in sai, 5 ft pole, chaim be toh, double hook, guandao, three sectional pole, spear & sang kwai.
But all I can remember now & have concentrated on are 5ft. pole, double hook, guandao, & chiam beh to.

Each weapon must have its own form, because each weapon is different from the others. A spear and a kwan-do are not the same weapon, so the techniques must be different. Certain principles may remain, but the forms cannot be the same.

me? i only know only one and that's Hik LongTassled TaiChiSword(Jian)
my kungfu classmates know only one too and that's Southern Saber.....
my other kungfu classmates knows only 6feet pole, but its an exercise since my instructor did not yet teach him the forms of kungfu pole......
Note:
my kungfu instructor always said..... when you perform saber/broadsword - you should hear the sound of whoosssss while swinging it....... if it doesnt sounds like that, then, youre execution of your weapon is very wrong......
it doesnt matter if you cant create sounds like whaaack while swinging your KUngFu sword (Jian)..... but in Broadsword/Saber - you should create a sound like Whoossshhhhh........
especially the Twin-Sabers or Twin-Broadswords - its really great to hear that rapid sounds swinging.....

That`s why in wu shu in order to simulate that kind of power exhibition they started using weapons made of light materials. Swords are made of tin long weapons made of flexible wood that I beleive will not withstand a chop from a real sword.
Our kwantao weight more than 10 lbs. The blade is made of solid steel the 0nly thing missing is the sharpness. That`s why it is difficult to make the blade vibrate but with constant training it can happen & when that happened ones` forearm, wrist, hips, legs & shoulders will be powerful.

i cannot understand you are living in the Philippines and don''t train in one of the world's most efficient martial arts? If you want to learn quickly how to fight with weapons learn Arnis!
There are many weapons you could learn to use: sticks, knives, bolos, kampilans, whips, spears, ropes, malongs, projectiles...

and i know that Arnis is very very effective kind of weapon if you are using Tres-Cantos (Three Sectioned Bladed Steel Arnis Weapon)
the only arnis kind of weapon that i have in my house is the Wooden Arnis but inside of it there's a hidden single bladed short sword with full of rusts to make it deadly when it stabs.....
My 1st degree blackbelt bestfriend of mine teach me how to use it..... he is from Deocampo Arnis Judo Karate School (Mindanao)
cause i am also living in Marbel South Cotabato, and in Norala, South Cotabato Mindanao too.......

i just remember again what my KungFu instructor replied to me before when i thank him for all his time on teaching us......
he said "When the Right Student in the Right Time, and in the Right Place - a Good Instructor Comes"

Nothingness I didn't know there are doublesticks in Ngo Cho Kun, are there also weapons like goloks (kind of bolo)?
Shervinc you need to learn the stick(s), bolo-knive first before other fancy arnis weapons....
if somebody attacks you in Iloilo he is more likely to use a knive-bolo-stick, so you need to study those... If you ever come to Manila and want to learn I can tell you were you could look for...
One of my arnis instructors is also a Tai Chi master, and his main martial art is kuntao (this one is a mix of Bagua and Arnis) but he won't teach it to me yet.... he told me there is also a (chinese) Northern Eagle Claw master in Manila...
