I am planning to go this year, but it will depend on whether I can get away from work for a few weeks.
Maybe Australia wasn`t ready so they change it to Quanzhou?

One thing that we ngo cho kun can be proud of is that South Shaolin Temple have adopted ngo cho kun as their official martial art & wu shu have been regulated as a secondary choice.

It was never scheduled to be held in Australia this year. If it had been, I would have known about it. Trust me on this.

        • I think the block is rather ... hmm ... a bit inappropriate. He can break his forearm blocking a powerful elbow strike like that. The right foot is also a bit too forward making it easy to sweep.

The zheng gu sui is use for healing bruises, spraines & dislocation of bone joint. it should have the same effect with dit da jow. Since dead or bruise cells will regenerate with the help of this ointments should make it stronger.

But there are stronger herbs that are mainly formulated for serious bones & nerve injuries.
                konghan,
I use Zheng gu sui (nakakasira lang ng kahoy). It is better than white flower pei hua. I applied it in bruises most of the times.

You can prevent your forearm from breaking if you don't block the elbow bone it self but the forearm part of the strike. The right foot should be ok as long as you will follow up a punch because at that point that the elbow was block (talking about the one using an elbow strike in the picture put his right leg in front.). it is more likely that a follow up sweep could be hard to apply if it could it was not that strong and risky considering his right leg in front and use the right elbow. If you use your left elbow then you can use a sweep with more power with the help of your hands and feet. That is why if you are a south paw it is better to use the left arm for the elbow strike than the right and your right foot should forward between opponents legs, taking half his weight.

The sequence of that routine is after the elbow strike it is follow up with a close fist to the head coming from the same arm. For the elbow strike to get in it the attacker has to step in, & yes a sweep would be a good counter that is if the defender doesn`t get hit first. The elbow block was done with two arm, one arm grabbing the bottom part of the elbow is to slow down the impact the other arm is to try to lock the elbow in or prevent a follow up attack. The tendency of the elbow strike is to penetrate & to break any block.

                    • another way

actually to avoid being punch right away after you elbow strike was blocked you should use double hand sweep along with the leg sweep. The other hand should hit the neck the other the sternum and you should tucked in your chin. If you off balance your opponent, even he was able to hit it won't hurt you since you take already most of his weight against him. Or the punch will no longer reach you. Aim your leg sweep properly if you make a good sweep a punch coming to you is powerless it won't bother.

                      • I heard there are specific ngo cho kun strengthening exercises using dumbells .... one holds a weight and lifts it (fist clenched forward) over his shoulders, altrenatively the dumbells is thrown in the air and one has to catch it with the other hand....
Is somebody familiar with this exercise? Are there other similar?
                        Thanks.

                        • It is called ciok so. A supervised training is a must. Otherwise, it is easy very easy to develop a lower back injury. A modern shoulder weight training can work as well with less risk.

There are several strengthening exercises that are speciafically targetted on certain muscle groups like the shoulders, forearm, wrist, thighs, calves, abs, etc.

The exercise routine are similar to doing weight lifting. It is done in sets & gradually with the right posture. Proper warm ups are necessary to avoid any muscle or internal injuries that might have long term effect.

Doing the throw & catch dumbells start with a light weight keep your shoulder, elbow & wrist tucked in, knees bended ( sam chien stance ). The stance will help with your back posture.

A good routine to go with that is the " finger hold on a dumbell" & do either squat or walk around in sam chien beh poh.

Shake hands & arms, punch out, or do double knife thrust to help with circulation.

                              • Thanks for the advices Nothingness, konghan,

I wonder what you do just after practicing dynamic tension exercises...
is it advised to do additional exercises afterwards to avoid problems?

Usually after dynamic tension exercises I finish training and sit down 5-10"...
