Wll nobody else has said anything about Tai Chi for me to have a discussion with. You sure haven't done anything to help a conversation about Tai Chi..all you've done is fed your internet forum ego.

So if you want. Which Tai Chi would forum goers recomend for SD. I prefer the Old Yang Tai Chi. Chen is to stompy for me.

    • I'm trying to find an article or some verification, but the Tucson MA rumor mill says that a long-time tai chi student was assaulted in one of the parks here by three thugs, and was very badly beaten. This isn't to say that tai chi isn't good for self-defense or won't work on the street. Just that if you are learning it for self-defense, you may want to train with someone who's actually used it... etc... Common sense stuff.

        • Not proof for sure

Aelx Gong was shot in a fight ovr road rage...he was considered ry trained fighter in MMA's. Another MMA fighter was stabbed in a bar fight, so along that logic MMA is not good for self defense unless you train under a "Really good" teacher?

I am not attacking you Liz I just want to point out that when CMA people use news articles and reports to point out MMA is bad for SD we get hem hawed.

          • I agree with that, MMA is not complete for self-defense unless you train under a real good teacher, which would mean that said teacher would teach you awareness, avoidance, de-escalation, and maybe a thing or two about weapons. I personally would rather train under someone who's actually used their skills in real life, though sometimes this is a luxury...

              • I can't find the article, Boar, but three of my friends said they read it in the paper. And I've seen similar articles... Plus you are the first to admit that "most" people haven't seen "real" taichi, so wouldn't that mean that the "fake" taichi might get you killed on the street?

So, you wouldn't turn around and use the same faulty argument, right?

I will agree that it is damn near impossible to find a good Tai chi teacher who has used the art in real life...wouldn't you agree Knifethrower?

But I have to say i'm a little leary of a rumored article that somebodies student got "beat up" in the park. Who gets beat up anymore anyway.

It most likey started as old Hobbs who studied Tai Chi at the retirement home with the super airy-fairy instructors, who's all about love and relaxation.

I'd love to see the article.

Oh look everyone the class clown has arrived, complete with misquotes, and attributing the wrong quote to the wrong person...thanks for the valuable contribution as usual....

Didn't say i wouldn't just gave it the response you would.

BTW you never answered my question, it wasn't a hard one but it sure is taking you a looooooog time there jubs.

Whats the deal, are you trying to figure out how to say it with smilies.

= I have now knowledge of this subject at all.

You're joking, right? There was a taijutsu class in the park where somebody was trying to start shit, saying, "Hey, I'm gonna beat up all your black belts" and targetting the women in the class. The students got him out of there.

There's also another article you can find, it's called "Elderly Woman Doing Tai Chi Assaulted in Park" or something like that. Let me hit google...

Yeah I'm not trying to insult your sources or anything treelizard I would just like to see the article myself. We all know how hearsay can be.

so 3 of your friends saw this article, and YOU saw similiar ones about thugs beating up Taiji people huh? But no one can find any articles about taiji failing in the street huh? Would you like me to post some verifiable articles on DEAD and critical condition MMA stars who applied thier skills in the street? ...would that make your taiji people getting beat up by THREE thugs less important? mind you THREE attackers, all you knuckleheads spout how NO ONE can fight multiples, then some tai chi person in a PARK gets jumped according to rumour and you wanna let that reflect on the art?

improper use of any art can get you killed, all phony arts and sports are dangerous as they give people a false sense of security in the street...very few poeple practice or teach taiji for SD the majority of the risk from bad SD instruction isnt likely to be the taiji people
