Well, look at Lt. Mathew Pottinger.

He spent 9 years with the Wall Street Journal covering China, doing interviews in Mandarin and then writing articles in English.

No, I said English not engirsh....

Exactly my point! There are many soldiers that write eloquently, so the profession is no excuse

Hmmm yeah, very few excellent spellers and english lit majors actually enlist and serve their country at all...If they do, you can find them behind their typewriters and desk pecking away...someone has to fill out the paychecks and leave vouchers. take a look at ANY board frequented by vets....spelling may not be any of our strong points but we all made it out of from behind a keyboard long enough to serve our country. unlike most of you spell check queens...keep on spell checking, im sure velcro gives a ****...PS he is on his way back to the sand box tommorow....arent you all thankful you can still mouth off at him from behind your little keyboards again? Hey send a dollar to a muslim, maybe he will have the balls to stand up to velcro in person unlike you posers

I didn't mouth off at Velcro, rather I was defending him.

Personally, I think Uncle Sam's Misguided Children are unmitigated bad-asses and would rather have one with Velcro's 'profession' defending the nation.

Simmer down, I cracked a silly joke which was really teasing Tom (who by now I figure I know well enough to joke with) more than Velcro if you reread the thread- not that he didn't have some flames coming after that rant. But hey, since you want to take this seriously let me be clear about this. I'm grateful to the teachers for educating our children, I'm grateful for the surgeons who save lives, I'm grateful to the garbage men for keeping things sanitary (seriously- think about what would happen if we didn't have them) and I'm grateful to the soldiers for defending our country; they all perform honest and necessary services but that doesn't mean I'm going to kiss their ass. I'm going to continue to speak my mind to them or anyone else on the 'net or in person because that's the way I am.

But you insulted a man's organization and who he is.

snipe away sag...I'm sure it wont bother velcro but anyone who thinks vets are normally good at spelling and grammar has been misled.

As for Velcro's rant, he clicked into this thread, saw the BS being spouted about people he knows and commented...wouldnt you have?

No, if you want to think about it that deeply I was making fun of the idea that soldiers can't write properly- I have a number of friends in the military who are highly intelligent. One way or the other it was intended in good humor

Sure, I just thought parts of it were a little silly. It's no big deal, I'm surprised my wise crack got such a reaction. It's okay, I don't dish out anything I don't expect to take and I don't mean any harm

One thing that makes it such an excelent self defense form is it's ability to neutralize a force and offset your opponinent with the option to counter-attack.

I know I have no way of ending this seemingly impossible argument, but it should not even be one.

Tai chi, for most westerners, is like yoga for most westerners. The average "western version" of the disciplines are tiny portions of the whole systems of thought.

Tai chi IS a martial art. there is no question. The misleading thing is that there are relatively very few teachers that are truley qualified to teach the entire art form. Which includes, but is not limited to: multiple hand forms, weapons forms, push hands (form and freestlye), sparing, chi gong, accupressure, message, and joint manipulation.

                                A Very brief HISTORY
In ancient China, the doctors were practioners of Chi Gong, a discipline intended, among other things, to open the internal systems and allow the flow chi(which translates as heat, blood, breath, energy, molecular vibration) throughout the body. In a time of social unrest, the practioners needed either an army, or a form of self defense to travel from village to village in order to see patients. From here Tai Chi Chaun was created. It was a fighting style that would embrace, and not conflict with their effeorts in Chi Gong. It was kept within the Chen family and eventually taught to several other familys( I cannot recall them all). These fammilys also kept it internally and passed it down through generations. Recently they have begun teaching the art form to outsiders in order to preserve it.

                                I hope this helps.
