Is there someone who already had a rotator cuff injury ? It is an injury i am suffering from by training my kali routine with iron bars . How long did it take to heal ? Did it heal at all ?
Thanks ,
Not had any experience from that injury specifically. the 'training with iron bars' bit concerns me (you in chokey?).
How you treat this depends on the type of injury it is, I'm guessing you've been to the Dr... if not go now.
Googling around I found some base information:
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis.
This is also known as Impingement Syndrome or Shoulder Bursitis. Usually this occurs in people 30-80 years of age, and usually the weakness in the shoulder is only mild to moderate.
Rotator Cuff Tear.
This occurs usually in people who have had tendonitis for a while and are starting to experience more weakness. It can also happen in someone who tries to lift something too heavy and feels a pop in the shoulder.
Instability Impingement. This occurs in younger patients, typically 15-30 years old. The rotator cuff is irritated because the shoulder is loose in the socket. This often happens in baseball pitchers, swimmers, and other throwing athletes.
From that it sounds that the likely injury is the latter, however if your too brave for the Doc then give NHS Direct 0845 4647 a bell or seeing to and get some proper advice from the pro's. This service is good as they can tell you the warning signs without the hassel of seeingthe Doc
I got a tennis elbow injury from using a pipe for striking. Avoid using anything heavier than the standard rattan stick. Maybe much later in training..
Thanks Nit for your input . Indeed it is the instability impingement you referred to . Problem is , I consulted already 2 doctors and went already to the physiotherapist for 18 sessions . But every time I am starting to train again , pain pops up again .

see a sports doctor that specializes in tendon injuries. Regular doctors usually do not have the expertise required to truly fux tendons. I made a mistake of seeing a normal general practice doctor for a while before finally giving up on him and seeing a sports doctor. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
i have never had a rotator cuff injury. However I have had a tendon injury in my collar bone area that left me at less than 100% for a VERY long time.
Eventually I had went to a sports doctor and started physical therapy and its finally feeling 100% again.
Tendon/ligamond injuries take a VERY long time to heal because there is no direct blood flow to those areas (muscles obviously have lots of blood flow and heal much faster). Furthermore the nature tough tendon tecture also lends itself to slow healing. It is not uncommon that tendons take up to a year to fully heal. (yes that means that broken bones can often heal faster than tendon injuries).
But it doesnt stop there. Tendons have a weird way of healing. Sometimes immobilizing the tendon will never heal it properly because you arent stressing that area enough to cause your body to build up strength in that area. HOWEVER, at the same time, YOU CANT OVER WORK THE TENDON EITHER BECAUSE YOU CAN MAKE IT WORSE OR CAUSE PERMANENT INJURY. That is one of the reasons why phsical therapy works. It stresses the tendon area just enough to help but not too much as to make it worse.
It is my recomendation that you stop ALL physical activity in with your rotator cuff and see a sports doctor immediately. Tendons can be the kind of injury that NEVER HEAL 100% if you do not treat them properly.
My tendon injury really hurt but I was a "tough guy" that tried to continue as business as usual. I am VERY lucky that my injury was not serious (however its taking many months to heal). I wish I went to a sports doctor the day after I got my injury instead of waiting a few months to go.
Being injured sucks. You feel like you are ina ferrari stuck in a traffic jam and running late. Its VERY frustrating and depressing not to be able to work at 100% for such a long time.
take it easy on the heavy ones. i practice with lots of sticks with different weights. light rattan, standard rattan, heavy rattan, standard bahi, heavy bahi, light kamagong, heavy kamagong, and steel pipe. take time getting used to each weight.
