  • information on silat

I have been thinking about starting silat, I just wanted to know some gerneral information about it, I know it uses weapons, and the kicks are mainly to the legs, thats about as much as i know.

What is the difference between silat escima (sp?)/kali? stuff like that.
Is it hard to find schools that teach silat in the UK?

    Any reply would be helpful.

    Thanks

Actually, there are thousands (literally) of systems of Silat and they cover the whole gamut of the martial arts spectrum - some specialize in groundfighting, some in striking, some in weapons, some in sweeps/takedowns, etc. All of them that I've seen deal with weapons but to what extent depends on the system.

Their resemblance/difference to Eskrima/Kali/Arnis would depend on which system of Silat you're comparing to which system of FMA.

Consequently, your question, as asked, is nearly impossible to answer in any decent way.

As far as Silat in the UK: I know of a couple of people but your best bet is to talk to Yoda - he should be around here somewhere. He's actually in the UK and is bound to have a better idea than me of Silat players on that side of the pond.
