Hi, everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any insights on where the best made balisongs are... any sites on where I might be able to learn more about techniques, care, etc..
Thanks everyone on the info., I'd keep those in mind. My first balisong was bought off some Taiwanese dealer. It wasn't very good and now is on the brink of breaking... yuk.

I'm not sure it is a good idea to learn without instructors as you may cut yourself...
I would like those, is there anywhere on the internet where I may order those?
Thanks, also, but I'm already proficient.
Ingats all!!

I heard of an Arnis master who specializes on Balisongs and sells good fma equipmeny on the web but he doesn't sell knives...
Sorry I can't be of help. If you have friends in Manila maybe they can send you some, Batangas is only a few hours away...
No offense, but the only thing that the balisong reminds me of are the muggers, street gangs & holduppers in the Philippines.
That is why I don`t armed my self with a balisong becuase it is too much identified with those bad people but I rather carry a regular 6 or 10 inch knife, any small conceallable kung fu weapon or a gun.
The bottom line is the balisong was invented so that you can open the knife with one hand. All the fancy ways to open the knife are fine, but all you really need to know is how to open the knife as quickly as possible. Once the the knife is open than you can utilize whatever knife system/training you're already familiar with.

I had a cheap piece of junk butterfly many years ago, im wondering for those who actually use these, do you feel quality balisongs are quicker or more reliable than other types of folders even the assist open self-defense/fighting oriented folders? What are the pros and cons.
- If you hit him hard, where you want to, and get the effect you want, whatever you're doing, you're doing it right.
- I make it a point to stick around with people smarter than myself. If I learn just 10% of all they know in their fields of expertise I end up becoming smarter than most people.
ways of opening the balisong are not meant to be fancy.
The easiest to execute is the "fancy looking" three step opening. I use my balisong for working when ever i need a knife (not outside the house obviously). Easy to keep in the pocket. Slide the lock open on your jeans and 1-2-3 ready for use. Open a box, cut some rope, sharpen a pencil...
My balisong is old school (really old, got it from my grandfather) looks like a razor and no other design on the blade.
