  • Recommended heavy stick alternatives

I've heard drive shafts and plumbing pipe. Any other ideas.

I also have a pair of Kamagong.

I'm asking because I plan on utilizing them for weighted training.

Don't overexert yourself if you don't want to suffer a broken wrist or tendon damage later in life.

    And you should hit tires.

I live in an apartment so a 'tire man' will be hard to come by. I could try swinging at the Hummer nearby but I plan on getting shot at right after.

I know not to overexert witicks and redondos especially with heavier sticks.

Do you have any ideas on actual alternatives?

Try using a baseball bat, or lead pipe. Make sure you are using proper body mechanics(heel lift, pivot) to insure healthy joints. Heavy weapon training is very important, but dont overdue it!

I would say based on my experience start slow. Like everybody says don't overexert yourself. It will all come if you do it correctly and in good form. Work on proper execution. work more on body mechanics(torque, hip, legs, shift from heal to ball or pivoting) Put your whole body into it. And most importantly FEEEEEEEEEEL!!!

Don't always think more is better. Alternate weights of your sticks.
          Hope this helps.

Those aren't something that is readily available in an Urban area.

Your in seatle? Seatle has a strong Pilipino population, just look up or google rattan shops, stores, furniture places in your area.

I think my girlfriend would have something to say against that proposal.

                    I'll check out google.

Axe handles are about the right length usually, some of them have a vinylized area that translates well to the blade part of a sword. Plus, they are easy to find :-)

I found a couple of internet sites out of the philippine's that sell rattan sticks. Can't remember the address but you should be able to find them as well.

If you dont have much room a chunky pole with go kart tires around it can do the trick ... although you may want to decorate it up if you are living in an apartment.

I wouldn't get too carried away with training with mega heavy sticks. When working with the sticks whether they are light or heavy think about the flow rather then building up huge amounts of power. I like to train with a variety of weighted sticks. Light and Heavy.

I figured I'd work on power and finesse semi-equally with weighted training. Get the best of both worlds.

With edged, for the most part, finesse rules but when it comes to blunt trauma there is still no substitute for sheer power.

To bad dude, you never know, date a pinay and her lolo(grampa) might be an escrimador
Oh, nevermind maybe that's good reason why not to date a pinay. Hmmm, "for blunt trauma nothing beats sheer power"........how about sheer power to specific targets?

Something good and heavy to train with

Have you tried using Acetyl rod? This is a havy duty thermoplatic rod and many diameters. My guro uses them to train in the manner you described. You can also bang them into each other and objects ,they are nearly indestructable. Don't use em against your favorite Rattan though, they will kill them!
