  • Crosstraining suggestion inquiry

Was curious what others have done to crosstrain their IMA (Silat/Kali)?

I'm thinking Western Boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or possibly Spanish Saber Fencing.

I currently train in Sundanese Silat and Doce Pares Eskrima.

Any cheap suggestions for the Seattle area also?

        How about a MacDonalds?

Would you like Apple Pie with that?

I think hapkido is a great combination with any art.

I was lookin more for cheap combative art suggestions in the Seattle area. But I'll keep in mind the Apple Pie suggestion.

Also pertaining to Hapkido I'm looking for non-Traditional styles and more towards fighting. I get my religion, philosophy, and personal opinions from other sources. The latter being from myself of course.

I'm not looking to get into an MMA competition but I sure do wanna handle myself inside and outside of an octagon. More so outside the octagon.

If you want to remain striking-oriented, I'd look for a boxing gym.

If you want to be able to fight from a clinch or in any other kind of grappling situation, look for BJJ, Judo, Sambo, or a Japanese Jujutsu school that competes in tournaments against any of the above.

                    Cross Training

Having trained in Doce Pares Eskrima-Escrido under GM Canente and Masters Petrilli and Johnson, I think I can help you. I would recommend a japanese jujitsu or akido school to learn the empty hand version of the escrido techniques you are already learning. Also some cross training in other philipino styles and jeet kun do would be helpful. And philipino dumog (grappling). I believe Kelly Wordin is up in your neck of the woods. If not for regular classes, then at least a seminar or 2. Also if you get a chance to travel, my old school in Tuscon, AZ (Tuscon filipino martial arts) is excellent. Sifu Edgar Cordova has trained with the best in the world and goes back to the phillipines a few times a year and comes back with a lot of good stuff!
