Airyu, will you be taking any medical precautions? Ie; have a medkit or a EMT present? Is this done in a similiar spirit as the Dogbrothers, as in, "everybody leaves with the IQ they walked in with", "matches are mutual, you pick who you want to fight" and "we're all friends at the end of the day"? Thanks, just wanted some clarification.

Couple more questions, is this single stick or are people also open to fighting doble? Are the sticks provided or do fighters need to bring their own 30" rattan sticks? In terms of having a similar event at a diffrent location how many fighters would you want to RSVP ahead of time? And in the case of another such event, would you be open to other stick sizes; ie 18"-36"? Thanks!

Invite all the stick fighters to a competition so they can hit 'em with kris and guntalong machetes, huh? Tricky tricky.
Seriously though...no rules...soon gaab time, three sooges style! i poke you in-a-da eye, whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop!

                  Hello Everyone,

Thanks for all the interest from everyone. Again, this is not a "Dog Brothers" style match setting. You can choose to fight single or double stick, or any size stick that youo choose, but the no armor rule is in effect. Being friends at the end of the day is up to the participants.

Several of the senior members of the Sayoc organization are medical personel, and there is a nearby hospital as well, for any serious injury.

This is definitely not for everyone, but there are many FMA practitioners who talk about such matches, now here is an opportunity to do it!

                      Steve,

Hello there, I hope that all is well with you. I think its a good thing that you are doing but watch your 6 on this type of event. This will be a very good thing for Eskrima but it doesn`t come without peril.

I have been present at a few of these types of events in the Philippines and have participated in a few as well. In addition I have fought challenges without armor and no rules and you want to make sure that you cover your ass legally here in the U.S. for this specific event format. All of the no armor no rules fights that I have witnessed and participated in before have ended with alot of blood shed from pretty much all involved. You as the host are responsible for any and all medical costs incurred at your event from any injury sustained by any fighter. The U.S. as you know is the most litigious country in the world, some one from the audience not even participating could litigate you for the shock value of such an event alone and the stress inflicted on them as a witness.

Personally I feel that such an event would be better received in the Philippines (Legally) or some other third world destination such as Indonesia. Just a thought, but I for one like these types of events because all doubt is removed and excuses mean nothing as you are only being judged on your ability to fight and no words or equipment will save you.

Should you decide to host the event here in the states I suggest that you speak with an attorney to find a way to cover your ass. You can have each participant sign disclosures not to sue but if some one gets their head broken or contracts a blood born disease from mixing blood you may still be liable. It only takes one law suit to take away everything that you have worked years to accumulate in life.

Either way let us all know how things turn out with you. Give my best to Kenneth and Magnus when you see them in Stockholm later this month... Go well, ciao.

                      Guro Dave Gould

I went to sayoc.com and looked at the forum. There's about as much (or less) information there, than there is on this forum. Upstate PA, is a very large area; Where is this to be held so that I may attend? Is this a formal meeting, or are people just going to be meeting in the woods or something. I mean, I know what time it is....

Below is ALL of the information provided on the original forum.

Open invite to fight, but no watchers, we will be meeting in upstate PA, NO ARMOR except mouthpiece, and cup
Rattan sticks between 1"-2" in diameter 30" long
No rules, fight until your knocked out, submit or the other guy is.
Give me a show of post whomever is interested....
Many of the full instructors will be fighting
The weekend of the 16th october

Yes, you can be injured....protect yourself!

No one really knows the experience of protecting your eyes, until you fight without a fencing mask. There are some Dog brothers that our students of ours, but we have not officially taught them any stick.

                          Hello Guro Gould!

It is great to hear from you! We will definitely have to meet in the future, as we travel around the same circles, I have only heard great things about you.

Outside countries have already been looked at, if the need to do more of these sort of events happens to appear. Within the Sayoc Kali organization are several top legal professionals, who have and are working on the "litiganous" nature of the situation as well. (but thanks for the information!)

I am looking forward to seeing our friends in Stockholm, we had a great time out there last time and I am really looking forward to heading back out there next week.

As for those seeking more information on this event (location etc) this will be provided to those who are coming to the event shortly.

I'd love to try and fight a no armor event. However, I recently broke my left pinky while sparring for the Bakbakan tournament in NJ. I'm out of comission for 3-4 more weeks and I had to have surgery for the pins. So be careful out there.

                              Hello Everyone,

This weekends event went off well and no serious injuries have been reported! You will be able to see some of the fights on various segments of the upcoming Sayoc Kali DVD's. Here is a quote from one of the Senior Sayoc Kali Instructors.

"Sayoc Kali focuses on "All Blade , All the Time!". A constantly evolving real
                              world approach on the blade.

Sayoc Kali is part of the larger organization called the Sayoc Fighting
System, which encompasses many other aspects of the FMA.

The 2004 Sayoc Stick Fights were conducted during a chilly autumn afternoon. As magenta leaves drifted lazily upon a mountain stream, all that was once tranquil were balanced by the maharlika's tune of a rattan stick whistling through the air, and its impact upon living skin and bone. The raw siena ofmoist soil invaded by crimson. Calloused hands and masks of exertion replace civilized armor. Myths are torn asunder and posturing trolls remain hidden in their warm electric havens.

The old saying that fiction can never equal REALITY is proven to be true.

Many who shall witness this footage will call it primal, perhaps even
                              brutal... we call it training.
