Yo Giddy, what up dog..?I got a question about this style you're training in (Lightning Arnis).Recently,I was lookin at books online and came across a book featuring Lightning Arnis. The authors name is Alfredo Acosta...well I have a cousin named Alfred Acosta...last I heard he was a bodygaurd in PI somewhere. He's always been involved in martial arts as long as I can remember. The last time I've seen him was about 25 yrs. plus.If you train with the guy or know him would you ask if his parents/family still live in Long Island,NY..?Then I'll know for sure if that's him or not........Yeah as if you'll ever get back to this freakin forum, dog damn it.....

          DVSJ,

I'm not sure if we are cousins or not, this is Rich Acosta. My brother is Alfredo "Rico" Acosta and our family is from Long Island.

I know we have cousins in Las Vegas. If we are related we should get together sometime.

Email me at kruzada@email.com and we can talk about it some more.

Just FYI we have not been affiliated with Lightning Scientific Arnis International since GM Lema's passing.

We are currently under Grandmaster Vicente Sanchez's organization, Kali Arnis International. GM Sanchez is both a Senior Master of LSAI and Modern Arnis but he heads his own organization and is active in Arnis Philippines (ARPI).

My brother filmed the Lightning Scientific Arnis video tape with Paladin Press to honor Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema whom he had a very close relationship with.

He brought the LSA video home to the P.I. and showed it to GM Lema, GM Sanchez, as well as his close friends in the IMAFP (Modern Arnis) Council of Masters.

It is unfortunate that Lightning Scientific Arnis would lose it's founder, and two of it's most prominant Masters (Senior Master Agripino Mayuga and Maestro Elmer Ybanez) in the following three years.

Our group is still dedicated to propagating the art and legacy of Grandmaster Lema, regardless of the unavoidable political turmoil that has unfortunately surfaced in LSAI since Grandmaster's passing.

I practice many different styles of Arnis, but I believe that Lightning Scientific Arnis is one of the most powerful and efficient styles of FMA in the world.

Grandmaster Lema distilled his knowledge of Arnis, honed through decades of fighting experience, into a complete repetoire of techniques and principles that a Lightning practitioner can use to defend him/herself against any style of FMA or MA for that matter.

Grandmaster Lema was very well respected in the Philippines by his peers, and his skill remained unchalleged up to his untimely demise.

Our group, Kuntaw Kali Kruzada, still mourns his passing.

had an opportunity to attend some training sessions with the LSAI/LESKAS group from UP-Diliman.

I missed the training there and finding Master Acosta's video was a really good find and helped me get back into training. Really good systematic presentation. It improved even my empty hands.

I'm sharing as freely as anyone asks, not setting up a formal school as I'm no master. My friends like the style.

Here in Bohol I haven't seen practitioners of FMA, so sad. GM Lema started a really good thing.

'buno' is tagalog for 'wrestling.' same meaning as 'dumog,' which is cebuano.

Only on paper. Boxing will remain the de facto combat sport of the Filipinos and basketball will always be the de facto national sport.
