hi guys, i've been reading these boards for a while
but just recently started to post..
i was going to post this on the "introduce yourself" board,
but figured that considering my current training,
i'll be on this board most of the time.
so hello!
my name's nate, i'm from nyc, and i'm a 3rd year university student.
my parents got me into Shaolin Kung Fu when i was 12.
i trained for 4 years and then lost my motivation..
then during my first year of university i trained with a Vale Tudo/NHB guy,
learned some basic grappling and groundfighting.
i still study (read up on) it in my spare time,
i always end up seeing something new to me on body mechanics.
anyway, for a long time i had been very interested in the FMAs,
and had been looking for a while for a place to train in nyc.
i finally had my chance last summer, when i ran into Guro Victor Velez,
a student and certified Kali instructor under Joe Musse
(who i believe learned Pekiti Tirsia Kali under G.T. Leo Gaje).
a warm, friendly, conscientious and just genuinely nice guy and great Guro,
Guro Vic took me under his wing and has been training me since then.
i plan on studying under him for a long time to come.
i enjoy the martial arts primarily as real fighting arts.
my goal is to be proficient in terms of reality-based self-defense.
and i'm loving Kali.
thanks for reading.
