Since: "All martial arts are the same! You wish to out-balance me, take me to the ground, kill me if necessary!" Is the same. In any conflict it doesn't matter what you practice, it doesn't matter what I practice, it only matters that I must stop you!" This is, in part, the concept of SinaTirsiaWali I derived from my practice and exposure to many many Filipino Masters and Grand Masters, since 1972.
The one thing I discovered in most instances with any of the old masters at the time and the grand masters I worked with, you couldn't touch them! Really, it meant the skill in Kali Silat was not how I could finish you, but how not to be hit, especially with weapons.
In WW2 there are many pictures of Filipino practicing their parries with live weapons, eventually it's the goal of every Filipino Martial Arts to practice at these higher levels. It is the way.
SinaTirsiaWali is not really a new concept, since it relies on the old school of thought, it is the physical, mental and spiritual discipline we give to our selves through our practice, the concept includes a prayer, your prayer. It represents yourself, if you are good your are will become good, if you are bad the art will become bad.
As Suryadi 'Eddie' Jafri would say, "What can you do that's different? Kick the high kick is nothing, everybody can do it."
So, take from the drills, discover what you can learn, learn from what you try to change, how can you make it different, even if it's the same. Looking forward, there are no followers in these arts and sciences we call, 'Martial Art's'. There are only leaders, bring yourself forward, with positive breath, always forward.
"These are the tools to use the science and art, having positive growth, mentally, physically and spiritually for everyone." Suryadi Jafri, circa 1975
These tools are available in every culture, it is the way of all life.
