Indian Weapon Art-Kalaripayattu

Hi everone ,

Pardon me, if this thread doesnt fit under FMA section.
Here is a 'Kalaripayattu' demonstaration video .KPis a South Indian martial art,which gives importance to weapons ,like FMA. You can watch some long stick,short stick,sword,dagger,flexible weapons and empty hand demos.Can you please leave your opinions as well.

Very entertaining demos! Thanks for posting these.

For anyone who thinks that FMA is based primarily in Spanish methods of combat - they should check these demos out. It has much of the flavor of FMA movements, and since the predominant terminology for warfare in Pre-Hispanic Philippines was Sanskrit - it is easy to see why.

All one has to see are old clips of Filipino Manongs doing their thing and you will see so much of the Indian influence in their movements.

Not really... Most of the more upright styles and the fact that they were barefoot makes the list almost endless.

That and I only watched the first two intro clips... The rhythm of the stick impacts and footwork reminded me of a demonstration of Kendang Lanka(s) "tiga" and "pancar" ... The evading and awareness of space...The drums of the Silat Pulut...

I suspect the SE Asian silat was influenced by Indian arts like this, yes?
