  • MULTIPLE OPPONENTS

(continuing the theme of building up a good ammount of posts that will create a good resourse of practical fighting strategy and tactics ...see my UNARMED VS KNIFE post .)
How would/how have the people on this forum deal with multiple attackers (other than run , pull out a firearm, get in car and run them over ,etc) specifically how would you handle 2 plus attackers either armed or unarmed.I have trained empty hand against 2 persons (not at full speed and it wasnt good ,granted its training not reality so things might go better... or worse(for me or them )Has anyone done any 2 or 3 on 2 or 3 in the first palce I studied "karate" We used to do 1/2 speed "gang" fights ,with rubber knifes and wiffle ball bats .It was a real eye opener you would mange to do well against 1 or maybe 2 then catch a blade or a bat in the back ... bad very bad. Well.. lets here your ideas..

If I was outnumbered, especially if they had weapons, one thing I would not do is stick around and try to "win" the fight. My stratagy would be to find or create an opening so I could make my escape.

      well..

I had a couple of fights with multipile aggressors in school.. not at all like "combat fighting" as school fights are generally school fights.. what i learned was what my jkd teacher later taught me.. that multiple opponents are defeated by a total awareness.. you have to be aware of your surroundings, what you know of the opponents, what their objective is, etc.. he said to constantly reposition my body so i was only dealing with one attacker at a time.. to throw my opponents so they land on each other, etc. now, as i type this, it looks like trite, obvious, yet hard to perform advice. granted. but he was good at showing me what he meant, in a classroom environ. am i the man to do this? dunno, hope i don't find out.

ever seen "the hunted"...it's a semi cheesy christopher lambert movie. however, one of the martial arts stars is a japanese kenjutsu master (not kendo, mind you..and he was real high rank, i forget, it's in the credits).. he was awesome to watch. i recommend the movie for anyone who enjoys any fencing art. there is a scene where he fights on a train, and a few others..where he has multiple "ninja" attackers.. (complete with full body black pajamas..woohoo! i'm in 6th grade again).. i like how he deals with multiple opponents.. the movie shows lots of simple techniques used with timing/distance knowledge..which isn't what i usually find in martial arts movies... i agree, the movie has lots of room for nitpicking, but still worth seeing.

also, there is a scene where a japanese woman is assassinated at the beginning. her part of the script, as she verbally confronts her assassin, is worth the whole cost of the rental. she has some BAWLS baby.

THE HUNTED IS AN AWESOME FLICK .. Karate legend Tak Kubota is in it as the drunk guy ... I agree thats what the "gang fights " we did taught me (among other things ) Be aware or you might catch a bat to the back ,or a knife and ..run from multiple attacker if you can

The Hunted had a fairly realistic portrayal of ninjitsu fighting techniques, especially at the end where the ninjas use taijutsu grappling techniques. The ninjas running and jumping around all over the place were a different story though.
And that kenjutsu guy was awesome.

btw Quietanswer, are you sure the ninjas were in black in the train scene? From what I remember they were in YELLOW(!) and the way the blood looked on their yellow suits had a really good effect.

            yellow..hm.

yeah, they were in yellow on the train now that you mention it.. i was referring to the initial assassination scene..and the "at the ninja camp" scene.. and all that.. frequently in the black pj's. crazy black ninja pj's.

            yeah, great movie though..totally agree
