The names "red dragon" & "rising sun" is a give-away that these forms did NOT originate from the Philippines but was developed abroad. Fixed forms may be considered a standard in FMA abroad - I don't know & I couldn't care less. After all, FMA has already become an art of the world that does not belong only to Pinoys in the Philippines. But I find it truly appaling that such foreign standards are imposed on all FMA as the true standards, even if it is, and never was, true at all in the land of origin. The only true FMA is the one that has forms? That is pure BS.

in know our forms are also refered to dances. i havn't started yet, but will be in a week or so. from what i know the primary reason we do forms is to enchance flow, and to carry tradition. that said i whave watched the forms and i see most of what we learn in them. the first form we learn has most of the single stick work from the first 6 angles of our arnis system in it. and by practicing and developing good form my skills in those first 6 angles should grow. of the other forms i've seen i reconized one as fma boxing and some empty hand. so within the forms or dances are the things we learn in class. i think they are an effective way of learning better flow, and re instilling what we have learned.
