  • What can you use besides heavy bags?

for stick work ect. I've seen tires and orange cones used but what works best and can they effectively take the place of a heavy bag?

A tire is great. Tie it to a tree (tread facing outward), and make the X.

A heavy bag can cause injuries but are good for combos, a tire depending on how you use it does not sink like a body but power maybe a little easier on your joints for power strokes. I see no benefits with a construction cone. A subsititute is the Spar-Pro or B.O.B. dummy but they are rather expensive. I don't like to tear up my Spar Pro with sticks SO with that said, I use a 6 ft. vessel towing rope tied down with weights. You can get them 4"-6" in diameter. They are heavy enough but yet give in all the right places so injuries to your joints are less common. You can tape up markers for levels in striking. 20 minutes a day will improve you power 100% in a few weeks. You can do combos and move around it 360 degrees. Our group has been using ropes for over 10 years and I have not found anything better.
