"I named Kalis Illustrisimo (Antonio Illustrisimo's system) and Bahad Zu'bu Kalis Illustrisimo (the system that blends Antonio Illustrisimo's style with Yuli Romo's personal Moro fighting style). There is a distinction between the two. Just thought I'd clarify."

Maestro Yuli's system incorporates all the core fighting techniques and principles of the late GM Ilustrisimo - maestro Yuli being the second most senior student of Tatang after the current head of the KI Master Tony Diego. Bahad Zu'Bu also incorporates Romo Clan Eskrima of Maestro's great uncle GM Islao Romo (The Romo Clan hailing from Camotes Island, Cebu); The art of Repigada Pegada of Captain Solferino Borinaga, taught to Maestro in his teens by Kikoy Borinaga. He also studied Balintawak and Tat kun tou under Boy Ursal and then GM Joe Go. Maestro also has a deep knowledge of the Tausug arts.

It may be important to emphasise, that Maestro Yuli attributes meeting and training with Tatang from 1975 onwards as being the most important and influential part of his training. With Maestro spending great time in studying the fighting strategies and principles that made Tatang such a formidable and respected warrior.

A great system of espada y daga blade work is Pambuan Arnis. And if you want to blow your mind, check out the Filipino Combat Systems' kerambit.

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to make note of all of this. :-)

And yes, I am aware that Yuli Romo is one of the original students of Tatang Illustrisimo. I just didn't include it because I didn't want to state what I thought was already known. Thanks for the info all the same.

Oh man, thanks for mentioning these. I've seen a lot of FCS Kali and Pambuan Arnis footage and I fell in love with it...it just slipped my mind.

        God Bless,
        Mike Pana

Dekiti Tirsia Serradas is a very interesting system. I've trained with Jerson Tortal twice. Dekiti Tirsia Serradas emphasizes footwork, alive hand control, and the use of the blade both sword and knife. One of the most interesting things about this system is that there is no sinawali. There is espada y daga training, but not sinawali.
