There is a school located on the Las Vegas strip called SMASH[acronym for School of Martial Arts, Salsa & Hip-hop]. In the school is a FMA program from the "Ocho Kantos" southern Philippine system as taught by Guro Cuenca. The SMASH school is located at 9620 South Las Vegas Blvd & Silverado Ranch Blvd. in the Silverado Junction shopping center across the street from the new South Coast Casino on South Las Vegas Blvd.

      Hey everybody.

I just moved to Vegas back in December and there are a couple of teachers here, including Guro Cuenca, but it seems like everyone's just teaching 1 or 2 classes a week. That's not enough training for someone who really wants to advance. That's why I have decided to start a Pekiti Tisrsia group here in LV, with the help of my friend and long-time training partner in Pencak Silat and Kali who is moving here next week. There are also a couple people I've been working with here already and another LV resident who is currently training in the Philippines who may be working with us when he gets back to the states. We're looking forward to bringing Maginoo Tim Waid here for a seminar sometime in April or May (to be confirmed asap) and to get us going on the group. My partner and I both have a background in Inosanto FMA and Pencak Silat Mande Muda. We are also hosting a Pencak Silat group.

So, Eric or anyone else who is interested can feel free to send me (Joseph) a message, and I'll provide you with further details. We're very excited about this new venture and we hope to find some dedicated people to train with.

      Take Care.

          Joseph,

Glad to hear you will be working with Maginoo Tim Waid. You will find that he is extremely skilled and precise in how he moves, trains, and instructs. Watching Tim move is watching textbook PTK. Crisp, smooth, and powerful. He'll likely work you into the ground.....but you'll love every minute of it. There is a chance that I might be out your way this summer on business. If I do, I will certainly drop you a line, and hopefully we can get some training in.

Train hard. Train smart. Train Often.

          Best regards,
          William

Hi Eric, glad to see you want to learn Kali Silat. We have several DVDs on Kali Silat, including the original Pekiti Tirsia, as a matter of fact I started Guru Tim Waid back in the eighties myself. Please visit our website at www.KaliSilat.org for more information. PS: Guru Tim Waid visited us about one year ago, and sadly I found him doing the "new" Pekiti Tirsia material, not much to it. Like all Kali Silat, hit hard, practice everyday and you will grow if you an open your mind finding your way to do it. regards, P. Greg Alland 35 years in Kali Silat.
