  • Mande Muda Camp!

    Hi Harley,
I was browsing through your website and I noticed a pic of Ibu Rita! I am a serious studenty of Mande Muda under Guro Louie Lindo and I will be traveling to Indonesia in Oct. I was wondering if you know if the Suwanda House is still up and running and whom I can contact to arrange training there so I can continue my studies . I have contacted people through the Mande Muda website and have gotten no response. I was wondering if you or anybody can help me I though you might know because of the pic of Ibu Rita. Thank you your help is gladly appreciated.-ed

        Hi Bluesteel

I trained with Guro Louie (all too briefly) in late '97, early '98 when he used to teach in Burnaby. How's he doing? His classes were always interesting. I hope I can hook up with him again when I get back to Vancouver. Please give him my regards.

If you are going to stop in Singapore please contact me!

          Louie Lindo

          Hi Assepish,
Guro Louie Lindo has relocated to Calgary and is teaching a private group at his home, he has semi-retired from teaching. I have taken over his club in Vancouver and when you come down your welcome to train with us. Singapore sounds like a good vacation spot I'll look into that. My e-mail is urbanss@hotmail.com

As far as I've heard, the oraganization is well on its way. Given the current politcal unrest in Indonesia right now, I wish you the best in travelling there.

You can try the Mande Muda club on Yahoo to get better answers for your questions. Kathy Ohara is rather prompt with replies. Ibu Rita is still applying for a work visa to get into the country. My instructor Benard Chong has gotten it started.

            Anyway, I hope this helps.

                Situation in Indonesia

Yep, things are a mess in Indonesia right now, but some places are worse than others. The Mande Muda Camp is just outside of Bandung (if I remember correctly), which is in western Java. Things have been pretty quiet there (i.e. no newspaper reports about violence recently). Jakarta is usually uneasy, with frequent battles between pro- and anti- government groups, police, students, and so on. The worst spots are Acheh (Northern Sumatra), Iryan Jaya (Eastern Indonesia, near Timor), and Kalimantan - where the latest massacres have been going on. Everywhere else (with the possible exception of Bali) there can be the occasional upsurge of anti-Chinese violence, but there haven't been any reports of that either lately (then again, my Chinese-Indonesian students tell me that it's always a problem). October is quite some time away and the situation could change at any time, so keep an eye on the papers and news sites.

                -Tony

                  Aseepish,
Thanks for the info actually one of the reasons I might not be going is due to the violence in Indonesia. Hopefully things will setlle down on Oct. Youve been of great help.

You can also check with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Or US State Department) to see if they have any travel advisories closer to the time you'll be travelling.
