Does anyone know where I could come across a good size chunk of it to make some grips for a pistol?

Bahi Wood
Hi,
I think you're confusing "Bahi Wood" with "Kamagong" (a.k.a "Ironwood).
Bahi comes from the root of the coco-palm so is in plentiful supply. What is not in plentiful supply is the necessary skill to harvest the correct portion of the tree as the darker bahi is the best (in terms of weight and grain).
Frequently here in the Philippines you can find Bahi but it's quite poor in quality with the "off-side" being very rough and the grain disrupted. Unfortunately due to economics you see more Kamagong about as it's easy to cut and make into sticks. It is endangered and the police crack down on movements of large quantities of the wood. Still, the NPA rebels move it down from the mountains at night but that's another story..
OP, I have seen your post on the FMA forum and I'm seeing a couple of suppliers over the next week or so. I'll mention it to them. It's a shame as I did just have some Bahi Dulos and Flat Garrotes made too.
