  • Need Information

    Hey Folks!
I really need to get some good resources together on Burmese Bando. I've done some searches, and always come up with the same four or five sites, all of which are the same material rehashed by other people, and to be honest, it's not a lot of material anyway. Do you know of any links, sites, or sources I can check out? Appreciate the help everyone...

according to robert wood, who is a bando black belter from the late 1960s under maung gi, dr gi is the one who created bando from the best of kung fu, tae kwan do, judo and muay thai. the original arts of burma died many years ago and there was no one left to teach it, so mr gi created the style for burmese army.

i believe mr wood, because he is THE bando man in our town, and if you were bando before it became popular, you had him and another guy, paul atkins and one other guy who i cant remember his name, for the test. i know because i use to train in the gym in washington dc in the early 1980s. there was no weapons like they have now except the small knife. we were told the weapon of the bando man was the russian automatic rifle.

        bando

i think there's some bando stuff at stickgrapplers' site:

Flock, the best team communication app and online collaboration platform, comes with team messaging, project management and other great features that improve productivity and boost speed of execution.

also try typing dr. gyi's name, or "bando" into the search engine at google.com

        just some thoughts,

          re: Dr Gyi

          Hi Mike,

My understanding is that Dr Gyi has requested that no Bando info be posted on the net. Most of the stuff you'll find is from people outside of Dr Gyi's organization. You might find a Bando man willing to converse a little* via e-mail though....

          Good luck...

the original arts of burma died many years ago and there was no one left to teach it,
I read in a magazine (Karate Bushido, special edition ) a few years ago of a burmese boxing teacher who still knew the arts. He had old traditional weapons and claimed to teach the old martial arts, as well as boxing.
A pinoy who also was in Burma told that he saw some martial arts close to Arnis there...

That's my two cents on the subject....
