I'm no expert, but for all my experience with wood work, this sounds pretty solid.

In fact I might try it myself.

I like to make my own stuff when I can. Firing sticks falls under one of those things I would rather let someone else do. But that's just me, knock yourself out if you enjoy it.

Here's one training tool you can try. I've been making these for a while now....

for training i wouldn't want to be hit with hardwood while training.

        Good for resistance training.

I'd want a more brittle stick for full force sparring, enough sting for feedback but not enough to get you to the hospital. Not sure how it's constructed they say its 1/2 inch pvc pipe inside rubber foam, it breaks when the strike is too hard. This I wanna learn how to make.

also i just whittle wood for training knives and line it with colored chalk for feedback assessment of knife cuts.

On one of Ray Floro's websites, he talks about how to make training "knives." Go to Floro Fighting Systems - Edged Weapon Tactics Discussion Online.. Then, on the right side of the page, go down until you see the section called "Categories." From there, click the link that says "Knives and other Hardware." That will bring you to an article called "Making Your Sparring Weapon - The F.F.S. Boffer!"

Some of the ideas in the article might work for sticks too. He suggests avoiding using PVC pipe for safety reasons.

            Hope this helps.
