MoroMoro, I think you are misconstruing what braddah, Chad is asking. He's talking of getting many of the other styles locally represented including non-filipino arts, to try it out, in the spirit of mutual sharing and learning which we from Hawaii call kokua. As far as low-quality, Hawaii has known it's share of great escrimadors from Largusa, to Villabrille, to Snookie Sanchez, to the Delmar Family. I am of both Filipino and Farani Polynesian heritage, and am proud of our strong pinoy martial tradition, but don't automatically assume that Hawaii is lackadaisical in it's understanding of what martial arts are about.

as far as hawaii, del mar isnt that school tought by a woman?
also villabrille was know for exagerrating and making complete lies about his training and fights. there is no certificate of him in cebu claiming he is the grandmaster and champion....
yeah hawaii has been know to have some great masters. but not as good as the philippines

I see what your saying, but your response was speaking as if he was saying hey im the baddest out here, who wants to fight me? There is a difference in the approach to challenging, and oepjing eyes to spread the beauty and effectiveness of the FMA. Yes, the Delmar school is led by a woman, but does that make her less of a technical or analytical instructor? IThere are teachers who maybe may lack the physical attributes to be a great fighter yet excel at breaking down the principals, and making it understandable to pass on, there are fighters who are able to accomplish victory because of the attributes, timing, speed, strength,agility and physical makeup, and there are the few who can do both. Whether or not Floro Villabrille, exaggerrated or not, there are witnesses to attest to his prowess, and he shared much of the same training lineage as Cabales, and illustrisimo, so does that make their style less effective as well? The primary reason for seeing more excellent escrimadors from the PI, is not that the water is better, training methods are more extreme, or info is so much greater, there are simply so many more of them, the the great thing about FMA, is that it is series of counters, and recounters based upon principals, and laws, that once mastered allow you to make the art your own. It is the practitioner that makes an art, thtas why you have successful teachers and fighters in the PI, claiming to have either dreamed their techniques, or learned by watching. Hawaii has a rich tradition of challenge matches in both the Filipino and native arts of the islands. shoot if anything, lets not be crabs in a barrel dragging our brothers back in when they try to do something, lets be proud that our arts, are proving themselves at both home, and on faraway shores.
