This may be of interest (concerning the post on filipino UFC), extr. phil. daily inquirer:

LAST Saturday's staging of "Fearless" at the PhilSports arena has once again demonstrated the growing popularity of mixed martial arts as a sports event in the country and the need to make event promoters more accountable.

Promoted by a foreign group, it caught the attention of Filipino fight enthusiasts with the announced entry of "top contenders from the Ultimate Fighting Championship" and World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion BJ Penn and the marquee match-up between Filipino fighter Miles Vives against Jarret Tamaye of the United States.

What the people got instead for their 500-peso to 1,500-peso tickets were mostly local fighters, a speech from BJ Penn and the event promoter, and an exhibition-type match between Miles and a substitute local Combat Aikido fighter. No explanation was made why Tamaye did not show up. In the UFC, equally strong substitute fighters are always on standby in case of injuries. But they always explain any change in the match-ups.

While the event was an improvement over the two stagings of similar events (URCC) with its glitzy dance numbers and sexy escorts, uniformed referees and the UFC-inspired octagon ring, those "extras" were no excuse for not delivering on what was promised.

I believe the "Fearless" promoter violated both a DTI rule on advertising and GAB rule on fight match-ups.

Were their any Pinoys representing the native arts?? I know in the URCC, there have been quite a few. Also, an interesting note, one of my friends told me that he was watching a K1 fight, and lo and behold tere turned out there was a fighter representuing Panantukan, who went on to win his fight. hmmmmmm.......

            hello haumana,

I don't know about these fights but in the two URCC that took place in Manila (November 2002, April 2003) most of the fighters were pinoy as far as I remember. Graplers got the upper hand in the second one, native arts were represented in both (ifugao dumog, buno, kalasag, tracma, yaw yan, petiki tirsia...). I will try to get the tapes....

            Thanks,
            Christian.

to crazyjoe380....please refrain from using Filipino word or words
that are unpleasant, disgusting, inapropreate, vulgar, etc. etc.,
I would suggest that before you say it, find out first from some one who knows exactly the meaning of them before you say it,
and only use the proper and discent words or languages which only belongs to this Pilipino web.
Respect others and you will also be respected in return, no matter how young or old you are.
No hard feeling my brother in Martial Arts.
                      Salamat.
