  • Lao Lan Manila Philippines

    I need help on finding some way of contacting Grandmaster Villanueva of Lao Lan. Do any of you know him? I've seen some threads containing his name. You see, he was my father's instructor. He wants to pay homage to him some time soon. I would greatly appreciate any information. One.

      What is Lao Lan? Is it a form of filipino kuntao,
      or a chinese martial art practiced in the Philippines?

      Thanks.
      Christian.

        hey krys,
        thanks for asking...better yet replying..haha. Lao Lan is short for Galao Tangulan which in Tagalog is Movement of Defense. The art consists of Shito-Ryu, Judo, Siete Pares, Larga Mano styles, and boxing. It was compiled and developed by Charlie Villanueva....he made it his own. But, anywho, my dad trained under him, they didn't even have a school, it was either on top of the Jai Alai building where manong Charlie was a security guard or in Luneta Park. Yeah, so, my mission is to try and find him, so my dad can reminisce and pay respects. okey then....payce. one.

              TwinCobras7;

              I am trying to get you the information you need from a third party.

              I will respond directly to the email you sent me when I get a response from them.

              It's nice to hear from a student of Lao Lan. I never had the chance to train directly with Grandmaster Villanueva, but my brother speaks very highly of him and his system.

              I hope that I will be able to get you the information you need sometime soon.

                kruzada,
                all i can say is...wow.....i can't believe it. I absolutely appreciate you doing this for me. I want to honestly say that I respect what you and your brother are doing for the filipino martial arts. I've read some of the info on your website about uniting all of the FMA practitioners and styles. Thank you once again for responding. I hope to hear from you soon. maraming salamat.

                  Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, they are sincerely appreciated. Perhaps we can meet some day in the future.

                  There are organizations in the Philippines that are making every effort to promote unity and a sense of brotherhood amongst the arnis groups there. We are just doing what we can to help the organizations back home network in different creative ways.

                  Many people here mimmick what goes on in the P.I., and we hope that what organizations such as PIGSAI, and many others, are trying to do for the arnis community back home will serve as a positive example worldwide.

                  If not, the bickering and backstabbing between different groups of arnis, and even within their own circles will never cease and future generations of FMA practitioners (such as my son's generation) both in the Philippines and abroad will inherit the dissention that we have created and/or contributed to.

                  I hope all is well with your family. I will contact you sometime soon hopefully.

                              Mr. Yonan;

                              It is my pleasure sir. I consider all teachers and practitioners of Lao Lan as extended members of our family.

                              I wasn't aware that G.M. Villanueva was still in Manila. As I related to your son, I was informed that he relocated to Australia. If you could email me his address, I would like to send him a greeting.

                              I hope that I will have the pleasure of meeting you and your son in person someday.

                              Salamat Po.
