Anybody know anything about this guy?

  • #2
    Clear lineage?

Yes...I think I might have read something about this guy...

Si-Gung Richard Clear has studied in both the United States and China. He has over a quarter century of continuous study in the martial arts, psychology, philosophy, medicine and physiology. Si-Gung Clear is the Creator of a unique program of 1 Touch KnockoutsTM. Since 1990, he has owned and directed a Pentjak Silat martial arts school, located in Tampa, Florida. ("Teet Lung Pai" in Chinese, and "Pentjak Kuntao Kilap Kilat Silat" in Indonesian includes a mixture of mostly Chinese and Indonesian arts)... Si-Gung Clear and his highly successful school have been featured in Inside Kung fu, Florida Sports Magazine, as well as local television and media. His training includes over ten styles of Silat and Kung Fu and Systema, as well as intensive knowledge of Tai Chi and Chi Kung. His certifications include a Guru (senior teacher) level in Pentjak Silat, a Master level (Si-Gung) in internal Kung Fu, and an Instructor certification in Systema. Si-Gung Clear is professionally sanctioned by the Kun Tao Silat Association International, Silat Kilap Betawi DeThouars, Malabar Fighting Arts USA, Black Tiger Fighting Society, Jackson's Wu Shu Institute, and the Jian Mei Internal Arts Association.

His website has some decent articles and other copyright info. The Glossary of Silat Kuntao terminology is a good place to start.

may be its better to take pictures than to paint one....

but u dont see them in the museum next to a monet....

that is what most of us in this forum call "ART"...ask most of the silat master or fighters...the fighting part is easy....the cavemen did it first....its to make asskicking look beautiful that is hard....
what the master demonstrate in the vid is the buah pukul or attacking sets and...in a real fight...this is the brain...it is so fast that u dont even have time to procces your methods....like muscle memory...
master clears is domenstrating it slowly so that u and i can see them...his art is the kuntau style..what some indonesian or nusantara region silat and the chinese kungfu have in common with...

see the yellow duct tape on the floor...thats the tapak tiga or attack steps...u can see the same thing in muay thai...now..i know u really dont mean that bullshido thing...especially with muay thai...right?

          salam....

What is the connection between this style and kung fu? The way he was moving looked a lot like kung fu to me.

it looks like master clear is connecting the dot between silat kuntau and chinese kuntau...silat kuntau is actually kuntau that have been influence by silat...so the traits that u can see in kuntau and kuntau silat is the short stepping and short burst attack...and also the trademark fast low kick..
                salam...

MMAfighter152, you need to dismiss with the assumption that if someone is not in a cage then they and their art are useless. Silat is something to be experianced, so wait before you dismiss something you have little/no understanding of. So maybe you also think because Kali practitioners dont compete in MMA that their art is also "bullshido"? These arts were developed during times of war and great strife (hence the so called "dirty" tactics; eye rakes etc.) Silat and other systems indigenous to the area are WAR arts no rules, no time limits, no referee's. Second place was death. so do us all a favor, because your posts are starting to sound like a broken record. Please get off the bandwagon!! its crowded enough isn't it?

Of course it looks good... the other guy is standing perfectly still with ONE arm out waiting to get f****d up.
Looks great, but I have to express my doubts. I have seen this individual advertise seminars for everything from dim mak to chi kung. He looks rather young to have mastered all those styles and actually teach them.

friend...unless u learn your art in a bar room brawl..while the police storming in...thats how u teach people about your arts...i can see you are not very experienced in martial art because u need to see the whole thing to understand it....the punching position is the easiest way to show the basic attack moves...if the guy is jump-reverse-kicking the master than you will be fussing about it being staged...
there are simple ways for u to understand all this..and learning martial art will be one of it...

"fighting is easy, looking good doing it is the hard part"

                        Yeah... funny but true.

Mr Clear no longer lives in Tampa although the school and several of his top students are still here. The kung fu tie is a blend of Chinese Kuntao and Baqua.
NONE of his students demonstrate anywhere near the abilities Mr Clear did....

I was wondering if this was someone you knew Boar. Does anyone know how Chinese arts came to be mixed with an Inonesian style?

yeah, ya gotta get to know the big shots you share geography with There is a HUGE underground of Silat here...Mr Clear AND Uncle Bill both spend a fair amount of time in town and both also have a rather large number of senior students in the area i usually open my school to them whenever they are in town....its great to see the baqua influences ....we cross examine each others movements to try and see why particular moves were kept and other rejected...My favorite project is Mr reeders Tibetan Tai Chi, its fairly similiar to Tibetan Lama Burning Palm at the advanced levels.

I understand that Chinese kuntao was mixed in due to the proximity to one another...the Reeders style had direct and intentional mixing while many others seemed to absorb what fit thier principles and theories as they encountered different styles.
