Trapping? Foot work like Langka? or "sticky" feet/legs?
The stepping in silat is about more than simply mobility or evasion. There is a treasure in the footwork seldom found in such a simple form of a triangle or a circle.
The most basic footwork is for trapping, checking, jamming, feeling or sweeping. Not to forget blocking or combination of stepping and upper body for throwing (like judo)
Most common upper body basic holding is gripping the back of the neck, hair, forehead, (orbits) jaw, (chin) bicep, elbow or clothing. Pushing him off balance to the rear or (pulling to the) front while stepping or as he steps you follow and post in a position to make him step again... keeping them off balance and nullifying their attack.
Always with the footwork...and a knife!
