  • Shaolin Do & Indonesian karate

I was doing some thinking and came to the conclusion that Shaolin Do is more like Indonesian Karate than Kung Fu like it claims to be. If you think about it this is true. SD wears the karate gi and Grandmaster Sin The' is from Indonesia. SD uses Japanes terms. It is more like Indonesian Karate. Whats your thought?

This is a response from Thad Wong Head Instructor

New York City Chinese Shaolin Center

Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly read the info on the site! We use Chinese terms for all of our material.

I think that best way to address your concerns is for you to visit the school so you can see how we train in person. That would also be a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have after having a look at our material.

If you have more questions please don't hesitate to ask,

Shaolin Do is an Indonesian form of Karate with some Chinese forms thrown in to make it look more 'authentic.' Plain and simple.

You say you use Chinese terms....Why is it then that Granmaster The' uses Japanes terms in his school here in Lexington, Ky. He must frown apon you I bet. I've been to his school.....they call it a dojo. Last time I checked that was a Japanese term. They also wear gi's. I will say they do wear the Chinese outfits for thier internal arts program though. It looks a lot like a Japanese school rather than a Chinese school.

And the name.... Shaolin is Chinese. Do (More correctly written as Dou) is Japanese for the way. In Chinese, it would be written as Dao, not Do.

All I can say is, as much as I don't like Shaolin Do. Yes it is a McDojo. But Jade, you've got to let it go. You are not the only one that has had bad experiences with McDojos, McDojangs, McKwoons or whatever.

I guess it comes from being in the same town as Grandmaster Sin The' and everyone here thinks he is like this god. They all think SD is so wonderful. It makes me sick.

You know, I would but he's the type to call the cops. Or as they say in Europe, he would call a "bobby". Then I'd be going to jail for beating him up or I'd be going to jail a bloody mess and my pride hurt......LOL.
