I am sorry gentlemen I dont think The state of affairs in the Karate world is reparable. There are too many self proclaimed Master Of Joe's Karate Do.
All that can be done is that these nect few generations have to try to learn as much as possible from the sources. Bridge the gap to what was lost and more importantly add what is missing.
Tradition has become a red herring. People make claims of tradition yet give out rank including Black rank like candy.
How many of us have seen the 12 year old black belts?
Remembering all the required material has become more important than actually knowing and understanding it.
Whats assisted in this downward spiral is the open forms mentality that is pervasive in Karate Tourney's. High flying supermoves such and unfounded technique. This creates yet more of a false sense in the puplic eye and the eyes of our younger students of what Martial arts entail.
When your skill as a Martial Artist is measured by how many trophies you win or your school brings home. Well theres a saying, "He who stands on tip toe does not stand firm".
The only way to change things is for each and every one of you to get out there and learn well. Find the masters of your systems learn from them and don't get sidetracked by the lure of flashing lights and black belt programs. The enforce the long road. Especially here in the US we are more shortcut takers. Most of us would rather have the Black belt in 3 years and not be able to fight our way out of a paper bag than train for 10 and earn that black belt and be absolutely deadly.
