Do kyokushin karate fighters limp when they get older?

  • Do kyokushin karate fighters limp when they get older?

    Is it a given that kyokushin practitioners will limp when they get older? Or is that only true for those who fight in knockdown tournaments? I am very interested in kyokushin. I think it is one of the best styles there is as far as pure striking is concerned. However, I like to retain my ability to walk as well. Thanks in advance.

    i think fighters of any style will limp when they get older. we ain't baking cookies.

      Dont know about kyokushin but I do know a lot of muay thai fighters limp.

      But then most sports players will when they are older too.

        No offence,but what sort of Martial Art is the one will make you limp when you get old??Come on guys,a REAL Martial Art should preserve you.

            Sorry mate..but would you practice a Martial Art which you know will have a bad effect to your health on a long term?

              Well, mate. I guess you'd steer clear of pretty much all sports, recreation, and manual labor. Most folks want to keep themselves in one piece, but come on...



              BTW, being born has a proven fatal effect on your long-term health.

                Depends, internal martial arts won't make you limp when you get older......
                I haven't heard yet of any limping Taiji, Bagua, Xingy master....

                  Man..I do like a lot your last quote...But for me,keeping myself in one piece is one of the reasons I practice Martial Arts.
                  But knowing that a Martial Art will leave you with a limp..hmmm...man...I would think twice before I choose to go for that particular style.I did ASHIHARA KARATE for a long time which is a younger brother of Kyoukushin but eventualy I stopped not for not being tough enough or something but I realised I wont be able to carry on doing it for too long.We are not made out of steel....again,this is personal thought..

                        Any rough contact/combat sport you will have phsyical problems football, rugby, boxing professional wrestlers etc. That is if you choose the life of a full contact or nhb fighter, like your living is to fight or starve. The average karateka will have no more problems than any other MAist - the greater the contact the higer the risk of injury.

                          If you allow proper time from injuries and take care of yourself you should have no more trouble when you are older then anyone else participating in a demanding physical activity; assuming you were in good physical shape when you started.

                            There is a man that is over 80 and is a 7th or so dan that does not limp and is in extremely great shape at my tkd dojo. I think you just need to be taught properly on how to do what your style is doing. There is a wrong way to kick that will f up your joints. If you kick properly the muscles around your joints will strengthen. I found out I have hemophilia a and my doc said that punching and kicking is actually good for my joints (he is asuming I'm doing it correctly). I train a bit hard so I may limp when I get older. Right now I may have fractured bones in both my feet from my powerful roundhouses (when hitting something heavy I am now using shins rather than the ball or top part of my foot). Hitting heavy bags can wear on joints if done wrong. I think the muay thai guys just hit them way to hard and wear on their joints even though they probly do it right. They have a hell of a roundhouse.

                              If you practise it correctly, most martial arts will leave you in fitter shape at 70 than a non-martial artist. Sure, maybe the odd joint weaknesses from so much activity in certain ones, but what about your heart, lungs, suporting muscles, arteries etc? They will all be much healthier from the regular exercise of an MA.
