  • Ninjitsu and Dojo/Master Info 2.....

You know anybody in Indiana? I haven't found anything around here, cuz I live like in a dead city. And the closest place is like 3 hours away. I live in Laporte IN. Zip code 46350.

    How come Ninjitsu? For fun?

Well, its better than Tae Kwon do. And well, fun is only like half of the reason. I've wanted to learn martial arts for a really long time, and I want to find somebody that will teach me Ninjutsu.

Uh, it doesn't really matter. I just want to learn it, ok? And first I need to know if there are any places around me.

I'm going to give you bad news and that is you probably won't find any. IT's been my experience that since Ninjitsu has really only been in the states for 30 years that it really hasn't spread much off of the coast (with some excettions)

Thats a stupid statement. Why do you think it is better than taekwondo? Back your stuff up. I was wondering why. I have no idea what ninjas do but saw their gear on websites and it seems to be very fantasy oriented.

              Gear on websites

The crap you see on websites is exactly that -- crap. It's cheap and designed to inspire the lower-than-novice-wannabe. There are 2 different kinds of ninjitsu out there. There is one who has it's teaching founded in truth and the fundamentals that have been a part of the art for thousands of years. There is another that tries to appeal to teh commercialised version of ninjitsu. These people talk mostly of stealth, "hidden techniques", ninja weapons, and "spirituality." In other words, what they want people to think ninjitsu is. Just look at the books out there... you've got some that are full of techniques and others that are full of a whole lot of nothing. It takes some discernment knowing who's on the level and in it for the money.

I will go look at a book dude. I was thinking the whole ninja thing was fake to be honest but I try not to judge an art by the garbage on the web or what ppl do to make a buck. I honestly don't know why ppl knock tkd it is my 3rd art and have taken 5 arts (master of none). We are more than just kicks. I like to cross-train so it doesn't matter too much. Ppl judge it so fast. I instructor has a impressive kickboxing bio (won't mention it sounds like bragging) and another instructor has just given up on kickboxing (he has some brutal fights I heard i'll see if I can find a video) due to the bad set up in kick boxing here. If it works in kickboxing then i'm happy .

Ya know, I never realized this before, but TKD and ninjitsu have a lot in common in that people are always trying to take something away from both of them. I personally don't prefer TKD just because of personal preference (I'm not much of a kicker), but I'm a big advocate for if the art works for you and it gets the job done when you or your family is on the line, then practice it until the cows come home.

I love kicking and have powerful kicks . It is a great art for me to cross-tain with. I have moves I do up close from kenpo, so I have both ranges . I know enough ground fighting to take out the average joe. I plan on working more with jj. I honestly don't care for it but it is important.

I have to tell you that Ninjutsu is mostly a mcdojo art. with very poor standards in general. There are some good people but these are few and far between.

If you are looking for books nd vids then Masaki Hatsumi's 'extensive' range is probably the only ones you should buy. Unfortunatley again many of the video's are just Thrown together and often do not display any real skills of abilities both on behalf of the Soke or his top guys. Maybe Genbukan material may better suit your requirements - although i dont want to start a Genbukan vs Bujinkan thing here, especially as i have no link with either.

My advice - seak another Japanese dojo - maybe in trad Ju Jutsu or the like and join a Kendo or Iaido club - you will get equal / superior fighting ability along with far superior Sword skills.

                        hope this helps.

                        chris

p.s = i make these comments due to my experience of Traditional Japanese Systems AND ninjutsu and the comparisons i have made between the two.
