1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.
Welcome to the Socialist States of Amerika . Coming soon Jan 20th 2009!
Ipon -"Power Fists in the land of fish 'n Chips". Is damn funny!
I have spent a good amount of time studying Arnis and always liked the theory or idea of gunting. The idea of punching someone in the bicep as they attacked just felt like it would be effective.
Too much depends on perfect timing and guiding his fist/knuckles into your elbow, slapping the outside of his arm while punching his bicep. Just try this against a good boxer with fast hands it is almost impossible! A parry will work it doesn’t depend on the same fine motor skills then that of a gunt or defang.
However I do believe, and my believe comes from experimentation, trials and failures that gunting can only be done if you go on the offensive and:
1) Luck
2) Attack his bicep before he throws the punch
3) Using your forearm bone (ulna) as the striking surface while parrying his punch (painful but won’t demobilize his arm)
4) Using low kicks to get the boxer to drop his guard then attack his head-essentially defanging him.
5) You have a impact weapon, or an edged weapon that you can attack him with and destroy his arms (or what ever else)
I believe I have worked this to a reasonable conclusion that gunting in real combat is a myth.
The real key is to attack if you can, because if you’re defending you are already one step behind and you are left playing catch-up, a position you really don’t want to be in. Aggressive attack ...That’s the real key!
HEY THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!! What about all the hard work Tom Yum and I have put into organizing and promoting this event called "Power Fists in the land of fish 'n Chips". Now that you made a "legal and non death match" I can only charge 1/4 the cost of the orginal ticket price for the event. Very Selfish Bri ...very selfish. Now how will I pay my rent next month
There goes our chance at getting Cake girl to work as a ring girl
Punching an incomming attack is actually an easy thing to do and one of the first things I worked on as a ninjutsu practitioner. It is hard until you learn proper distancing and more precise movement. many people seem to thing you have to be incredibly fast to punch an attack. Really it is about efficiency of movement. It is really easy to appear to be fast when you only have to move half as far as everyone else. It is really hard to comprehend until you have a chance to be shown by someone. Very effective to remove weapons(limbs) from an attacker, or at least cause them enough pain to make them more hesitant of attacking you. Opportunities for bicep or deep muscle strikes usually comes when a person overextends themself on a punch such as when a person is really trying to knock you out. It really depends on how the person is fighting you at the time. If they sit back and throw safe jabs, you can only really get away with striking the back of their hands with the knuckes really hard. It is very painful, and easy to break the bones of the hand striking this way.
Someone else who understands! I was beginning to think that the world had run out of people like you. Let me in let you in on the culture of this board. People tend to think you're crazy if you believe something that they can't pull from a cracker jack box.
I'll believe it when I see someone do it to a resisiting opponent (no, not another Ninja student.....). I will also volunteer to be that resisting opponent.
I reckon it is easier to make some kind of contact with a bicep or a forearm.....though you'd have to be pretty good to actually efectively strike/disable them in a real go.
But these Ninja idiots are talking about striking an incoming fist. Now thats just ridiculous.
Imagine four people in front of you. They start to throw tennis balls at your head and body. Can you punch them away? I don't fink so!
Anyway, we can await the clip from Hikage........... But hurry up mate. I'm 40 alread, and may only have another 30-40 years left!
