Wow, that's harsh. I don't condemn a school for enforcing the traditional ways of the art. I mean if someone really wants to learn the traditional ways then they will expect that they will have to tie their belt proper. So I don't think a school is a bad school if they do enforce these things.

Well gee little girl ,I don't think traditionally women were allowed to compete let alone talk when they weren't supposed to.... so why don't you resume your traditional role and shut up. Hows that for your tradition arguement! Life is harsh .I don't think traditionally women were allowed to practice either.
Traditionally women had to have a white stripe on their belts and could not compete in Judo contests, because it was felt they weren't equal to the men. Up until the 1970's .Now Womens judo is an Olympic event!
      So much for tradition!

      tradition!

It's nice to know that some people's problems are so small in life that they can get bent out of shape over the most inocuous things. Wish I had that luxury.....why don't you "rank it" Greenthink and chill out! No response is warranted!

Wow... What's with the over reaction Man. This was a simple question I had. Anyhow. Yeah... I beleive that the traditional stuff is good. At least for me. It may not be good for you, apparently. Sounds like you may be hard to train with and teach. Have a lack of patience and dicipline. Sensei does not go alot into the spiritual stuff. However, respect for Sensei and the Dojo are a must. Its ok if you dont understand this. This just means that you and I will never meet in the same dojo, never train together and I will never get to see Sensei toss you on your ear from disrespect. Darn!

Maybe some of the traditional people may know this. I was told that when Sensei ties your belt this is their way of saying I accept you. Is this true?

Just looking for real answers. Not looking for posts that waste my time.

          Thanks

Sensai, dojo, its all pretend. Why don't you speak in your own language.

All the women that want tradition wouldn't be allowed to play.Talk about mundane , what about the idiot that places some importance on when or where you tie your belt. You people are being sucked in and controled by some bozo that wants your money let alone the "extra's that can be garnered by having little suck-ups call you "Sensai"!

Just like Jim Jones in Guyana with the purple kool-aid.

How much importance can be placed on a belt? How about a belt of purple kool-aid?

You really are slow. Let me explain my question. It is not about magic. It in not about spirit. It is about learning the Japanese ways, traditions and art. A I said, Sensei is very traditional. And if I want to learn and understand, I want to know all I can. You must not want to get the most out of your training. I think we all know that you would never make it in Japan or most dojos that require respect. I can remember a story where a guy was put in his place after walking into a japanes home, or dojo... i can't remember, whering bedroom slipper. He left his dojo bruised, bleeding and with a bit more respect.

Second. If i was to speak my language... I would be speaking Lakota Sioux. Yeah... thats right... American Indian. You might understand this if i say it in your language... ingin. Respect is always given in my culture. I dont mean flipantly iether. Respect for elders, respect for nature, and other peoples ways. That may be why I like Sensei's kind of teaching and guidelines.

And... again... looking for real answers here. Try to remember that... k?

IF you have a "teacher" that thinks there is something mysterious or spiritual or showing respect about how or when you tie your stupid belt RUN don't walk away from the bozo because he is so caught up in the B.S. that he uses the rituals and cult -worship crap to hide the fact that he doesn't know "Jack shit about teaching " martial arts!

From a master of jack-shit like yourself, that is a significant observation.

Do you think I'll agree with you if I look like you? That's kinda 'conformist' of you, isn't it?

i've never heard any such silly thing as it's rude to redo your belt. that's absurd. and my belt would come undone every class 10 times a minute.
