I think they are better than just your fists alone. Cause much more damage in a faster amount of time.

I have this on my key chain:

Like I said, it doesn't take much imagination to see the advantage of a small stick over a blade. You are living proof that it's percived as "nothing at all" whereas a knife will get you sent straight to jail...I would be happy to share my limited insights on the short stick with someone that was actually interested in it's varied capabilities...instead of bashing the weapon why not read the articles i posted links to? These little things come in various styles with different applications. Your tiny pen stick on a keychain might seem useless but you could try pressing it against various parts of your anatomy, I bet it's more effective than your thumb for those so called compliance pressure point tactics cops use...? larger varieties will kill quite easily without all the blood a knife will shed. But, to each his own, eh?

hey man, i am not just bashing this stick. i just personally dont find it to be that useful. ii know there are a few diff kinds, but im only talking about ur very basic one that is the size of a thick pen and isnt sharp at the tip, just dull. honestly, when i would carry this around, it was exactly as if i was carrying around a pen . people even thought it was a pen when they would see it. whatever u can do with this stick u can do with a thick pen. yeah u can poke people real well or stick it into certian places, but u can use anything to do that.

u could just say carry around a rock with u and hit people over the head with it if u need to, or throw it at them, or press it into their skull and so on. a blade on the other hand has a perpous. its mean to cut and puncture. if u know how to use a blade, its probobly better than anything else.

also, blades wont send u to jail if they are of legel size depending on your states weapons laws. i know in california u can carry around folding knives if they are under a certain length. i personally have a very small light one that has a 3 inch blade. its not big, but its enough to be able to defend yourself very well. im the kinda person who stays out of trouble and dont want to have anything to do with violence, so i know when i get attacked, someone is probobly attempting to do something very bad to me, and i not gonna hesitate to defend myself with a knife. ill worry about consequences later, because i dont want to get killed.

but if u have used this stick(the basic one) with succcess before id be down to hear about it

Yeah, cavemando, right? LOL Your tsuki-waza would really suck with a rock. and if you USE your knife you will go to jail. You can be charged with everything from "brandishing" to ADW to murder depending on how you use it. Think twice, cut once...?

A pen is a good improvised weapon, but it won't cause the damage that the kabokon or other like small keychain weapons. The pen is a poor penatrator and will only penatrate soft tissue and won't cause much blood loss unles you are lucky enough to hit the carotid artery.

The Kobaton (SP) and others are desied to cause bone damage. It is good for hitting the face, jaw, eye sockets, temple and etc. It causes much more pain then a pen as well as more damage.

The kaboton is used most often in a reverse grip fashion and is used like a hammer fist. Very powerful! The keys should be sticking out by the thumb side of the hand and can also be used to strike, like in a reverse ridge hand fasion.

The pen is good the Kobaton is better!

lets say u had to go to an area with alot of crime. would u feel safer with a basic kabuton or a 3-4 inch blade folding knife ? consequences aside, what would u choose?

I would feel perfectly safe with or without a weapon but I would feel safer with a weapon in my hand, not in my pocket. The stick is invisible, the knife is an invitation to escalate into them shooting you dead...(consequences aside) Personally I invested in a custom kerambit a while back, made to order kinda thing, I played with a "prototype" and sent it back for a custom knife show in Denver last month. Mine should be here next week. It's not a stick, or a knife but it's kinda like a knife....and a stick...

This reminds me of a little test, picture yourself in a violent confrontation... two men locked in mortal combat one man has his arms locked around the the neck of the other... what would you do?

the right answer is not obvious to everyone... finish choking the guy out! LOL The victim mindset is half the problem...at least. How many cops killed by guns are shot with their own weapon? I have it somewhere.

For the use of the Kukotan or yawara etc, take a loot at a little book from Maasaki Hatsumi ( yes the ninpo master) about stickfighting, it deals with 4-6 foot staf as wel as what he calls Eda kappo a small wooden stick
