  • 100 man kumato..help needed pls?

    hi guys

I was watching best of K1 2001 - 03 on eurosport the other week when the commentator spoke about a challenge called 100 MAN KUMATO (not sure of the spelling) .....basically its when a skilled karate martial artist walks into a dojo and has to fight 100 black belts....and he is not allowed to leave until he's either lost or won.....I know this sounds like jet lee and complete Hollywood bull sh*t but the commentator on tv was very convincing!

does anyone know if this is a true occurrence and if so where can u get a vhs or dvd of this....as it sounds amazing!

    thank you

    Mas Oyama's Hundred man kumite

    Dear Karmen,

i'm sure they mean the 100 man kumite (also with 40 men) which was a graduation test for black belts at the old dojos from Mas Oyama (Kyokushinkai). There exist one or two tapes about that. If i find a source, i will extend it to you if you wish. I have both at home, there're impressive, not only for karateka's.

All the best, Mike from germany

Well it was alway a special test, not just for BB, hence only few have completed it succesfully

In addition to the basic requirement of 100 fights, other requirements are that the competitor must clearly win at least 50% of the fights, and if knocked down, should not stay down for longer than 5 seconds.

My current instructor's brother Soshu Shigeru Oyama has fought the 100 man kumato.
While in active competition, Soshu Oyama successfully completed the 100-Man Kumite (free fighting), defeating one hundred consecutive Black Belt opponents in full-contact bouts. He has shown the power of his karate in awe-inspiring demonstrations, breaking over a thousand pounds of ice with his knife-hand strike, and stopping a razor-sharp sword with his bare hands.
