      opinion

hey I wasnt living during that time
nor do I know of any ninja besides the practicing Masaki Hatsumi and his students that I have read about.

I do know one thing though.
Even with some present MA teachers they do not teach all they know.
and associates who are military and trained in japan have told me that some of the older japanese bujutsu ryu are loath to let any of their students learn everything they have

if the ninja were supposedly the clandestine forces of feudal Japan
there are probably EXTREMELY few people alive who knowtotal systems of real ninjutusu, and if they are they probably wont teach it to the world

I mean Hatsumi probably knows way more than he taught his students
and his master -- Toshitsugu Takamatsu(off bunjinkan site) probably knew more than he taught and so on

I would not like ever other person to be well trained as a navy seal or marine recon because those cats are stone killers
same with ninjas... who wants people who are conversant with a plethora or physical and mental war weapons running around

There was not one "guy" that knew everything, and since then every martial art has been diluted. It's not like each successive generation of warriors is inferior to their teacher, just because the teacher doesnt teach all he knows.

Maybe the reason many of the things teachers know but do not teach are found to be useless in the present time.
Anyone can kill, so teaching 99% of what you know and saving on bit of knowledge would not really help you very much.

Many students learn things in thier quest for knowledge that their teachers did not know, and which also make them a better fighter. For example; I'm sure the "original" ninja knew nothing of Guns. Now every martial art has gun defenses.

A gun is much more dangerous than a person with "physical and mental war weapons running around."

If put to the test, Martial arts continually evolve to be more and more efficient. It's not the other way around.
