What are the predictions for judo in the Athens Olympics? The Japanese are looking at 9 gold medals. At least that is the hope according to their coach. I personally predict that all the americans bow to the mat although the rule was changed. But I hope that we at least get a medal and not get skunked once again.

Why does the richest country in the world that seems to excel at ALL the other sports have a history of 50 YEARS OF JUDO FAILURE? Could it be because of the inordinate amount of time and energy spent on trying to justify Classical judo and its 100 year old training methods ? Does it help our olympic athletes to prepare for more humiliation by adopting submissive attitudes( such as bowing and pretending to be SHINTO)?

Hello does anyone see a pattern? Or do you too have on the BLINDERS?

WATCH and maybe you will learn why U.S.Judo is PATHETIC when it comes to international competition.

THEY WILL ALL BOW TO THE MAT even though there is NO concious reasoning involved ,while they will all be getting beaten. THIS IS PROOF OF THE MOONIE TYPE INFLUENCE IN U.S. JUDO .

    Fu

    Not again hey?

Remember the first non asian to win the Olympics in Judo?
It was Anton Geesink, a countryman of mine, he bowed to the mat too as well as sending away his people that ran onto the tatami

America has one of the highest amount of religious people, maybe that's the patern?

You claim America excels at ALL sports, this my friend is BS, cricket, normal hockey, korfball, WKF karate are just a few sports you don't excel

You put your interpretation of bowing on the bowing of Martial Arts, therefore you see it as submissive instead of a sign of respect

I think you are unsuccesful because there are to many Kevins in your country, people making a problem out of nothing and that do not want a democratic organisation, even though the majority of the American Judo Assoc din't have any problem with bowing a individual didn't want to adhere to that and push through what he wants by sueing the assoc, costing the assoc a lot of monet which otherwise could be spend on training
But even now the rules are changed, it is not enough for the likes of you, others that still bow, you want to force to stop doing it too

WE have discussed this all before and ou know noone agrees with you here

They still haven't put you back in the home? The medicine is good for you. Take it. It will quiet the scary voices warning you about bowing.

Booger flicking, snake stompin, alligator wrestling! What the hell is korfball?

Something to think about eh? THE BOWING AND PRETENDING TO BE JAPANESE. WHERE DOES THAT FIT INTO REALITY THOUGH? I MEAN Shinto religion is probably the most under-represented religion in America, except for the Judo moonies. Hey do you bow to your Grandmother? Why not , don't you respect her?

Only in America does the "Pretending to be Shinto" take the forefront over the sport aspect of Olympic Judo. The bowing and subserviance of Pretending to be Shinto produces "UNCRITICAL THINKING"!

        Get it?

People just accept that the way to teach sports skill is by standing still and using sticks and boxes to emulate the "DYNAMIC MOVEMENT " of the human body.

DO YOU TOO BOW TO THE HEAD TABLE OR KAMIZA (PLACE OF SPIRITS).

HEH WHAT IF THERE REALLY ARE SPIRITS? WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

IT SAYS DON'T BOW ( RIGHT BEFORE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS)!

The bible also says "DO NOT BOW TO A FOREIGN GOD".

And it says you cannot serve two masters. When the shit hits the fan are you going to say that you're a Shinto? Not unless you were raised Shinto. No you will be crying for God and your mommy , in that order. And when you struggle for your last breath maybe you will ask Jesus for forgiveness, for leading others away from thier faith, enticing them with some kind of SPIRIT WORSHIP!

Toudiyama for a self avowed atheist you make a pretty good case for adhering to a religion. Did you know that you too are a un-concious Spirit worshipper? That is really odd when you stop to think about it. You practice the Shinto religion and you don't even know it!

Hello ? You are not an atheist anymore ,you are Shinto! You bow to INANIMATE OBJECTS. THAT IS SAYING THAT YOU BELIEVE THEY HAVE A SPIRIT RESIDING IN THEM. AND THAT THE SPIRIT IS BETTER THAN YOU SO YOU LOWER YOURSELF BEFORE IT(THEM)!

Taekwondo is also an olympic sport. As far as bowing goes it is a formality if you are not intelligent to realise that than you have problems. What does shinto have to do with bowing unless you are in fact bowing at a shinto altar which i doubt they will have at the olympics.

the bow to the tatami isn't worshipping at all, it is acknowledging that you will adhere to the rules
I do not bow to a shinden or kamiza because there is no such thing as a seat of the gods since there is no god

If my grandmother was living is SE Asia I would most likely bow to her since that is the equivalent of giving eachother a handshake

Like Sherwinc ou have this tendency to not read specific parts in posts, like that You put your Christian interpretation of bowing on the bowing of Martial Arts, therefore you see it as submissive instead of a sign of respect

I am an Atheist, yes, but I do know that if a god would excist, he wouldn't care if you bowed out of respect, as long as it isn't a submissive bowing down
And this, my friend, is determined by what you are thinking and feeling at the time

You and your teachers are trying to put religion in Judo

All this has been said before, I am amazed at how stupid you are, what were you thinking, 6 months have gone by lets try again? Maybe everyone has gonne insane and agree with you?

You claim to know why the US teaam will fail, you don't do these things, I take it we will see you compete in the olympics or at least one of the students of your teacher

Korfball is a spoort that eminated from the Netherlands, mainly practiced in Europe
The US excels in certain sports not in ALL, not by a longshot
heck K1 has been dominated by European fighters
Your problem is a christo-American superiority complex

OH so some agree that bowing to inanimate objects is not right. FORCED bowing in oriental culture is the SUPREME HUMILIATION.

When they bow to the head table THAT is Shinto spirit worship, a fact that is undeniable. It is part of history .But what if there are spirits? I personally don't believe that but I may be wrong. It sounds like Todiyama may be posessed by the Judo spirits and not realize it.

What does it mean to bow to an inanimate objects anyway? Isn't it ALOT worse to be forced into it?

You are not bowing to the headtable itself but the people behind it

And I can't be posessed by spirits because there are no such things as Gods, Spirits, phantoms or Ghosts, they are fantasy
You seem to live in this fantasyworld, good for you but don't think others do too

Again, most of Asia bows in the same way as we are shaking hands
Even bowing in a temple isn't submissive but a sign of respect and thanks
Tell me oh Professor, which Shinto gods ask for submission?
Heck which Hindu gods ask for it?
The only one asking for that is the monotheistic god
It is only him demanding the spotlight, no, the total attention

You are way too obsessed with Shinto

You're taking this way out of proportion.

Bowing (the act itself) in oriental culture is about showing courtesy, like hand shaking. 100 years ago, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans didn't even understan hand shaking; they bowed to each other - each of those countries uses bowing slightly differently - its more of an artform in Japan than it is in China or Korea. The depth of the bow depends on your relationship to the person you are greeting; if its your friend and equal, you give a slight bow; your teacher or supervisor - longer, deeper bow; the head instructor of your dojo, your company president, your eldest ancestor - as low as possible for as long as possible.

A bow is a simple act of respect, that's it. I can guarantee you there are Christians that practice judo, jujitsu and kung-fu that bow, but understand this is a practice of respect, not an action that symbolizes warship.

Bowing at a picture does not constitute warship of that picture, its casing or the person in that picture. If there is additional context that makes you believe it is, you should disclose that and strengthen your argument otherwise shut up. For example, your american judo sensei bows to a toilet, sacrifices a pig for the toilet, puts a wig on the toilet and calls it "The One" then you could accurately infer that there's some kind of warship going on...

Oh nevermind, hey if your anti-bowing obsession makes you feel important, go for it. Just make sure that you don't do any stretches that look like bowing, bend over to tie your shoes, reach for anything without bending your legs etc.. otherwise someone might catch you and call you out as a shinto spirit freak...LOL
