  • Aikido/Hapkido

I am new to MA, and I wonder which MA to take.

I live in a city that has aikido and hapkido school, but i will be moving at the end of this year to a place with only aikijutsu school.

Which style would be better if i will be transfering to aikijustsu?

    Thx

    Just my thoughts

    Hello Lil Dragonfly.
I read your post and it is my opinion that you should study Aikido first if you are going to go into aikijustsu. They are similar in form but there are some small differences in them. How ever they can be worked well together. If this helps you then you are welcome. If not then I am sorry that I was not able to assist you in this matter.

I suggest you try out both, and see which one you like the most. It's usually always good to mix martial arts as well, since you then develop your own personal style.

        the roots

the style that gratly influenced hapkido was daito ryu aikijujutsu, which aikido also has some deep roots in, one of my instructors who is a 2nd black belt in hapkido and has done a few years in aikido in the past says that aikido has more flowing techniques

          which one?

try both if you can. But if you want useable self defense techniques faster, than go with Hapkido. IMO, the other styles are terrific, but take a higher level of competence and skill to be effective.
