  • Sharpening ur sword????

Yeah i Got a sword imported from china, BUT! i had to dull it before it came so that it would get across the boarder all nice, anyways I wanna sharpen it up again, and i tried a hand held knife sharpener and it worked but not to well sicne the metal is like 1/2 mm thick at the part that used to be the edge. anyways i tried a electric sharpener to and it isnt doing much good either?? Any advice.

-Knife shops wont sharpen it casue its to "shady"

I wouldn't advise sharpening it at all. If iy's from China it's probablty a SSO (Sword Shaped Object). The last thing you want is a sharp SSO. if you're going to anyway, I would want to direct you to either www.swordforum.com orr www.arador.com these sites consist mostly of reenactors and professional historians, they've likely forgotten more info on armour and swords than you will ever know.

if it was sharp at one time, you'll definitley have to be careful, you won't want to remove steel behind the Mune line and reveal the hard steel. Why do you want it sharp anyway?

Find a better importer. That sword is probably ruined. If it can be refurbished you'll need it done by a pro that has the right tools to restore the bevel and edge. Attempts to do it yourself will result in MORE damage. Don't grind it! That heating from friction will destroy the metal if dulling it didn't.

          Live and learn.

All forms of sharpening require heat and friction. but I agree, the sword is most likely ruined, if not the sword will be if it's sharpened too much. if all else fails, just use it as an Iaito.

BTW, I've never heard anything about a law stating that all imported blades be dulled.
