EEERRRrrr, uh, i assume you mean you have assaulted each other? I thank you for not saying sparred but fought isnt the right term either, its assault.

I know what you mean. It has been a year since I have actually fought with a live blade. I stopped because it was getting too dangerous. I gave up the live blade for the bokken. My friend on the other hand still uses the live blade.

I told him I will no longer use the live blade except for Kata practice. And that I would not fight him again until he switched to the bokken.

you missed my point(s). Unless anger, or intent to harm are involved, its not fighting. Its called assaulting....its the correct term for a full force attack and defence. Sorry to be a stickler for detail but blade work is the one place leakage of sport ideas and terms has NO business.

Yes i have had the experience of live blade assault from my teachers....i think its silly and DANGEROUS and STUPID as well as counterproductive...NO ONE goes full out with live swords without a hospital visit or worse....so no one really goes full out....thats why i ONLY allow bokken and staffs for contact, no spearheads or live blades.

Yes I know now that the bokken is the way to go to gain experience in the art of sparring with a sword. What style of swordsmanship would you think would be more effective?

Actually I think a Shinai or rattan is safer than a Bokken. you can still send people to the hospital relatively easy with a bokken.

Oh, believe I know it. I have a shinai and I use it often. I like the bokken because it has the feel and weight of a Katana.
