    Rick Tew sucks.

    Really.

Seriously, I looked over his website before and was never really all that impressed with what I saw. His techniques look decent and he talks a good fight. However, the truth came out when I got to the sparring videos on his page. His students looked little different from high school buddies wrestling on the beach. Sorry, I'm too lazy to find the link, but if you dig around on his site (www.ninjitsu.com) you'll find his sparring videos. He seemed to me to be very commercialized. He himself seems alright, but his students didn't seem to be able to do all too much.

Personally, I would never go to a workshop of his.

well to be honest i was thinking about his home study program. I figured out the pricing and it would be around 250$ for me and my friend to do it. when you think about it, if he sucks or not hes giving you 4 years of training for 250$. You cant beat that! even at 5$ a month (which as you all know is kinda rare for a dojo) im only paying 10$ more for rick tew. in short the way i see things is simple. If this guy can beat me in a fight, theres something i can learn from him.

Well.. I can see your point, my brother bought a remote controlled lawn mower using the same logic. (really). I do caution you though... traditional ninjitsu is made so that people can't learn it from home and that they would need to see an instructor in order to learn the basics. After the basics home study works really well. I don't know about Tew, but Hatsumi and Tanemore both purposefully put a small amount of mistakes into their books and videos to ensure that only experienced persons are reading them. Anyone else would be forced to see an instructor to explain it to them.

Tew's thoughtson his website are pretty valid and he seems to be trying very hard to understand martial art (or martial science?...) but when I saw those videos I was saddened. High kicks, spinning-twisting sword attacks, flying kicks, stupid demonstrations, grappling hooks? Lameness.
