  • Bodyguard Job.

In a couple of months I am starting a body guard job. The pay is $75 an hour.
I was wondering what style you think they will train me in.

    Hi Tai Chi,

Hmm, okay, first off, I know I'm not an expert on bodyguard jobs, but I am PRETTY SURE they will train you in some grappling techniques. The person/celebrity that you're protecting most likely don't want assault charges filed against them because their bodyguard just punched some dude's teeth out and now has to eat through a straw for the rest of their life. Kali will probably be mixed into it as well, or should be, as their baton restraining techniques will supplement your grappling. Again, this is merely from my own knowledge from what I've heard and seen in my life. And aside from the martial arts, I think a little bit of social skills will also be added, so that you can learn to talk your way out from further aggression.

But you're 17 and someone's making you a bodyguard? Wow. Lol, you don't even have your driver's license yet. You must look real big. Another thing that I think will help a lot is if you go lift heavy weights and get buff. Most people will take one look at a buff guy and be intimidated by his muscles. Psychology plays a big role when trying to get people to leave your client alone, and physical intimidation helps.

Well, good luck and be safe on your new job.

Thanks. And I will be 18 in another month, so that is why they are hiring me, even though I am a big guy.

What kind of back ground do you have? What kind of job is it? Which company do you work for (do not give out client info)?

Usually they want guys who have experience i.e. ex-military, ex-cop (or current cop), someone whom you worked with before vouches for you, etc, etc. There are schools out there, I suppose, what they teach is different, but I don’t know much about them.

If you are directly contracting with the client there will most likely be no training at all, you'll already be expected to know your shit (of course they will most likely know this prior to hiring you...back ground check, reference, discharge papers, etc).

If you are already getting work in the protection services you should already know what is expected and what skills you should have
        .

I just realized your age. What kind of body guard job is this? No one I know would hire someone so young and with so little experience.

They are hiring me when I turn 18, and that is in a little bit less than a month.

An 18 year old non trained body guard? Who are you guarding, the Dixie Chicks? You ever consider you might be a bullet sponge? Wouldnt YOU hire someone with better skills than yours to guard yourself?

Go get a black belt from USSD. (United Studios of Self Defense.)

Should take about a month...to learn how to curl into a helpless ball.

Maybe...maybe...you have bad enough acne that people would stay away from you? B.O.??? I'm not seeing how an 18 year old KID with no training in any combat system or even , god help me, martial art...can be a bouncer. My (BAD) advice is steroids...deca and premabolin...shoot that shit in your legs, stay hungry, and lift alot of weight.

My real advice is...slow down, grow up, train a bunch for a few years, see some bad shit go down in scary places FIRST...and then see if you're still up to it...otherwise your meat.

I guess the 18 year old bodyguard wont be getting into the clubs wth his clients Or should I say the room? This sounds like a kid getting to drive escorts to meet clients, or a teenage fantasy...yeah sounds like both.

I actually did that once when I was 18. That is NOT bodyguard work. And...it's not all it's cracked up to be when one of the girls is on the rag, but still strips.

                        get an education

my only advice is to get an education whereby hopefully you will be in the position to have a bodyguard, and not be a bodyguard. Being a bodyguard is a real serious job- one that entails much training- with most today derived from past occupations in similiar fields.
Unfortunately, buldging biceps and egos are just cosmetic concerns to many who hire/choose to be in this profession.
Really ponder if you want to enter this type of profession and research why/who are employing your services because it just might be you who is taken out first.

                        Bill

No combat training? I have studied Martial Arts since I was 7 years old. And spar full contact almost everyday. I keep my reflexes sharp and am always aware of my surroundings.

Aigh't, my bad...I just saw this and assumed you had no prior training. Still man...careful. I wouldn't want an 18 year old bodyguarding me, unless it was a thai champ or an ex phillipine military pekiti tirsia expert or something.
