I frequently find myself thinking about leglocks while watching the mixed martial sports on TV. Lets face it, very few players really know how to take advantage of the legs. It makes me SCREAM sometimes because it's SO damn obvious! IT'S RIGHT THERE!!!

And damn if they don't see it. Most players try to get past the body scissors without considering the potential for submission there on the lower half. WHY?

The holds are not illegal in THAT game even if they are forbiden in Judo.

Get with the program already! Call it NO HOLDS BARRED and just ignore all the joints in your legs? Ignorance indeed.

It bugs me to see so many missed opportunities for immediate victory.

    Press on.

I'm not certain but I think they're even legal in BJJ. Am I off my rocker? If not, why on earth don't you see more?

They are and that is my point. Why is there so little interest in leg destruction? (submission)

Hardball illustrated (at least one of) the perceived weaknesses of leg locks/leg attacks. It is true that the other leg can inflict some trauma. That is one reason that a Judoka can be penalized for being in a bent forward position. It leaves you open to knee strikes among other things.

There is a natural progression in grappling toward the dominant position before submission. The reason is clear enough. To avoid being injured yourself and in the Judo style to be gentle with your opponent.
If you lean forward to get some attachment on the foot the other foot can smash your face (when the uke is on his back) This strike is legal in Vale Tudo but not in some other arena. Knees to a down opponent likewise. Drop elbows or head butting... All valid techniques in Judo but seldom seen outside the UFC and others.
