Ok! I'm bored! and I like karate, also I had an Idea.... so here it is. I wanna get a list of the names of every kata you guys know of and a rating you'd give it out of ten, and if possible, somthing they help with, some of there characteristics, and maybe a little bit of there history. Though I wont expect that. I just have a real obsession for katas, forms, patterns, etc.

How about some names of some katas? Rather than just generalisations? FOr example... Gojushiho, Naihanchi, Saifa, Bassa dai, etc. etc. FIrst two I remember seeing from Matsubayashi ryu, and saifa if I remember correctly comes from Goju, Bassa dai... cant remember... shotokan? Beats me =P

Woo, here's a list, albeit a short one: Shihotsuki (sp?) Pinan Nidan, Pinan Shodan, Pinan Sandan, Pinan Yondan, Annanku, Niseishi...er, gehirn ist kaput, or some such nonsense (was attempting to revise german today)
They're all included in Kimura Shukokai, but I can't remember for the life of me where some of them originate, and I have a feeling niseishi is the okinawan name. Going by my dodgy japanese, I think it's otherwise known as Nijushiho-twenty four steps?

Hi guys,
I dunno if it will interest you but I'm an amateur translator, I got a small site of translation pages for various Japanese martial arts at the following address:
Angelfire on Lycos, established in 1995, is one of the leading personal publishing communities on the Web. Angelfire makes it easy for members to create their own blogs, web sites, get a web address (domain) and start publishing online.
There you will find translations of web posted mokuroku containing kata of all kinds, There's some translators notes included as well.
Hope it helps ya.
