do you think aikido would be a useful art to start taking? i would like to add it into my curriculum. I am currently taking BJJ and muay thai and I am thinking about signing up for some aikido classes in a few months and i was just wondering if anyone has taken aikido classes and how effective they art is and if it makes sense to take it, thanks.

aikido is very much an internal art..therefore you;ll be subjected to a lot of philisophy, cleaning the dojo, ritualistic stuff etc...
any military art will teach you the leverages and self defence that a long time in aikido would yield.
but aikido is fun and friendly and maybe develops something in the mind so yeah, theres the tossup

Steven Seagal was bragging to some stunt men on the set of one of his movies that he was so good and nobody could get behind him.
The stuntmen just happened to know Gene Lebelle.
So, they said "we think we know somebody who can take your back". Steven Seagal didn't think so.
They went and got Gene Lebelle, and Gene Lebelle grappled with Steven Seagal, took his back, and sunk a choke.
Really sunk it. Steven Seagal pissed his pants.
Steven Seagal then fired all of the stuntmen, and said until Gene Lebelle comes and apologizes, they wouldn't be employed any more.
By the way I did a bit of Aikido and it was bullshit. They are hocus pocus idiots.
Jiu Jitsu is much better. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido was a great warrior who defeated many fighters in his time... He was very proficient in judo, kendo and other Japanese arts, but felt that he needed a more spiritual connection with the world of martial arts. Hence, he developed aikido based on this philosophy.
So, you see... aikido is not for everyone.

The law of tyranny:
1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

My god man! where do you find the time. Sounds like your cup is already full. Personally I think you should just stick with what you are doing. learning bjj & mt is already a full time thing, learning one of them takes a lot of time and practice. Maybe after
you've gotten alot of experience and the tecniques are first nature to you, then maybe you can take on something new. Thats just my thoughts, since you asked.

Hey if he wants to take aikido dont discourage him! I really dont know much about the system but in my belife is that any system is good for training in cause you get a feel for other martial arts. But if you have only done bjj and muy thati for a very short time I would suggest staying with it a while longer a few months in them wont make you a good fighter
