  • ninja of old ninja of new

just hearing the word makes you think of an assassin dressed in black pj's with a mask sword and shuriken.

this depiction has been put forth by the movie and theater and is not entirely accurate. the ninja of old were regular people. poor people. who during their time had to face many persecutions from corrupt officials. thus the need for specialized skills which later became ninjutsu were born. they honed these skills while still leading simple lives mostly as farmers of smiths. but in many cases doctors. these warriors could sneak into any fortification and carry out their mission undetected.

the more modern version of the ninja can be found in the form of military spec ops and certain intelligence agencies around the world. it is said that many ninja methods are employed by these groups. the ninjas of old would have been on the cutting edge of technology and the more modern variants are no different. using all the latest technology they carry out various operations for government agencies. there have even been reports of ninja like occurences in some of our modern wars. one example is of the entire platoon of marines that mysteriously died overnight with no signs of struggle or conflict.

in comparison the modern ways differ from the old , but are they always the better way to do this?

This is nonsense, historians have already proven "ninja" were hired or government trained assasins. Not farmers.

I was told that they were farmers originally, and they developed the self defense system to protect themselves from the Samurai, who would ride through a town and take whatever they wanted.

Im sure after the effectiveness of the art was seen, people ''specialized'' some generations later maybe, and were no longer farmers.

there are too many myths about martial arts out there to count.

like the shaolin monks, they weren't the peace loving spiritual people that we are all lead to believe

I doubt you go from a family of history planting rice, to over throwing a force of troops trained most of their lives to kill people.

The assassination techniques used show an evolution over a longer period of time. And an intelligence far above farmers from that age.

I wouldn't discount the intelligence of farmers.

the monks had this thing of testing their techniques on people to see what damage would occur. mainly done on criminals and 2nd class citizens at the time. this has been a common practice through out martial arts history so not limited to the monks, but this is still something they really like to keep quiet in this day of age.

thats pretty interesting. to think, a monk, wow that kind of goes against their religion dont ya think. as for the incident of the modern occurences there is a book by al weiss and tom philbin that mentions it in the beginning. also there was reference to a mission in which ninjas were to board a ship and gather intelligence, this mission failed due to them not knowing the english language. that was in a different book though i believe.

in almost every culture through out history 2nd class citizens have been classed as less then human, so at the time it was looked on as a positive thing and not against their religion at all. hell the catholic's still look at life this way

even still they are life forms and killing them goes against budhist religion. no matter what class they came from. not to kill plants animals insects humans or any other living thing unless that is your only option.
no i have no link to any official documentation of this as i would not even know where to start. buy the book. thats all i can say.
got any official documentation of shaolin monks roaming the countryside and killing innocents on the street. probably not.
