  • I'm very, VERY excited...

I JUST discovered a Jeet Kune Do school in Indianapolis, Indiana (where I'm currently living). Sure, it's $85 a month, but it's BRUCE LEE'S JKD and classes meet often... almost every day. What's really cool, is this guy knows a lot of JKD people from all over the country whenever I move back home to Houston, he can recommend some people to me. I'm really stoked. I can finally lose some weight and learn the one martial art that really intrigues me. Finally, I get to learn first-hand what I only read about in books. I'll be heading over there this Friday to check it out... wish me luck, folks.

      Happy training.

Just don't get sucked into anything stupid, like a 5 year contract.

Thanks for the support, guys, it's held in the highest esteem and is very valued. Any advise you might have would certainly be heeded and taken with the utmost sincerity. In regards to a contract, that's the cool part... no contracts. At least I haven't been TOLD there are any. If, however, a contract comes up, I'll turn my back and walk away without a second thought. I can't wait to get started.

          Gary Hoyd?

          Hi,

Is your training going to be with Gary Hoyd? If it is, you are in luck! Gary is a great guy, smart, honest and tough. He has a real understanding of the root of JKD, and he can both teach it, and make it work.

          Enjoy your training,

          BIG Sean Madigan

I'm not sure what their names are (I keep forgetting), but I'm going to go over there tomorrow and I'm sure I'll know the names of the instructors by the time everything's all said and done. If I like what I see (which I'm sure I will), I'll be coming by every possible chance I get I'll report back with names of the instructors tomorrow. Is Gary Hoyd in the Indianapolis area? If so, I might look him up. I've been in Hell (I mean Indiana) for the past eight years and I'm kicking myself in the rear for not looking into this sooner.

              Hi,

Yes, Gary is in Indy. Here is his website: http://www.geocities.com/ghoyd

              His e-mail address is: ghoyd@Yahoo.com

Make sure you find a school where you feel welcome, regardless of JKD political affiliation. Gary is skilled, and above everything else, he is a good guy.

Cool, thanks for the advise. I'll definitely look him up. I've spoken with the guys over at the school on the phone a couple of times and they sound very open and nice. I shouldn't have any problem feeling welcome... seems like they'd enjoy having me there.

Seems a little high... but I met the instructor today and the guy really knows his shiznit. Seems worth it, to me.

the program where i train at is 85 a month,

but you get unlimited group classes six days a week ...

jkd, kali, lameco, bjj, western boxing, and muay thai, along with two open gyms and willing instructors that will help you tweak your form and what not...

but i was reading yesterday 139$ is the national average for martial arts memberships!!

that's just f-ing rediculous because i bet more than half of them are McDojo's...

peace, and good luck in finding a school that fits,
                      joe

Thanks for the support, all. I just took my second class today and it just kicks @ss. We did footwork, worked with Escrima sticks and did some takedowns. Basic stuff, really. I'm gonna be pretty gung-ho about all this... can't wait to get really into it. McDojos... I LOVE THAT!
