No art is special. They all have certion points of learning .How well you learn and can use the tools of any art is the person. But all arts evenM/M/A has a point of learning the tools. JKD has set tools of learning. And agin how well you can use them is you. But just any thing is not JKD. sure you can applie the understood function of JKd to say your exsisting art or what ever. And probobly improve the performance that you have. But thats aspect of and not JKD. Now the can of worms might come out and say different. And thats where much problems come in. The many different views of what is JKD. So much countlees time is spent saying JKD is this or that. When all you have to do is try it the real JKD then you will know. If its somthing that you might want to train in . You do it if not on to something else. The concept of what it can do for other arts. Lends it to the concept of use. But seperate it has a path. How well you travel that path is you . But we all know there is no perfect self defence art out there. And most all arts by there self are not complete. The person grows out of need or interest to be more rounded. We all can allways improve. But the steps we take are ours to find the way we need. JKD is not such a bad step towards the right direction.

All this goes back to my original point. Look at all the different opinions posted in this forum about what JKD means. If JKD has set techniques that you learn as newbie then the entire conceprt is hypocritical, and if there are not some core techniques how is there a system to teach newbies? It seems as if you would have to have a foundation in some other system before subscribing to the JKD principal, and if that's the case why not just study MMA? I don't know what techinques they teach in JKD, but if the goal is to become the best overall fighter then MMA would be the way to go. I know people want to hold on to Bruce's system, but I don't think anyone can argue intelligently that the skills an average MMA fighter has aren't the best at this time(Thai Boxing, Ju-Jitsu, Western Boxing, Wrestling). With that said, the principle of JKD as it is explanned in previous posts would suggest that MMA itself is what JKD is all about, so why are instructors teaching anything other than that?

i blv the skills of whatever arent better then anything, its taken on an individual basis, but on the JKD side of things, i cant argue for or against considering i personaly have not trained in it, but i have sparred a few students of the "non art" art...confusing...lol...

umm, JKD is more so philosophy in my opinion, and a MMA student does have a set regime to understand... training techniques to go through... etc...

overall in my respect JKD is something one adds to their understanding of MA not a way to learn it..

        peace
